- Comments: Article is very thorough.
Firstly, a good standardization phase would be a good thing: we have made up an apposite template for team squads, but it is not applied on it. Secondly, I don't see how a "Transfers" section would be interesting for the article (Wikipedia is not a sports newspaper). And thirdly, the players' descriptions on "Greatest ever squad" section should be removed in my opinion. Better to approach a serious expansion of the articles on points like the team history, almost undescribed on it. --Angelo 00:00, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ok. I see your point for transfers but I don't for Greatest ever squad. Kingjeff 02:32, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]- Nominated January 10 2006; needs at least 2 votes by January 17 2006
- Reason: I know, another Anglocentric entry - but this article is seriously terrible. Sentences run the length of small essays, over-pretentious use of words like "notwithstanding" and "thereafter" in totally inappropriate places, numerous irrelevant asides, this article is awful. Judicious editing, removal of weasel words and much TLC needed. Qwghlm 22

This was a failed featured article candidate last summer - its nomination is here. I noticed it had a lot of content, so I did a lot of work tidying it up. - Reason: My recent rewrite means that the article needs peer review to ensure accuracy/NPOV. Whatever other opinions people may have of Duncan Ferguson, he's undoubtedly a compelling character and since his career appears to be nearing the end, I've made an effort to give him an article worthy of the rollercoaster ride that has been his life. A big push by the community at large could, I feel, make this an excellent biography.

This article does not comply with the content policies of Wikipedia. For an article to be compliant, it needs to be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), the material needs to be verifiable (see Verifiability), it cannot include original research (see No original research), and should not include unsuitable material (see What wikipedia is not). These four principles work together and all four are required to be present for compliance. | |

Football League Championship/Football League First Division (2 votes in 7 days)
[edit]Ridiculously short - for a secondary division in a country where football is the most popular sport, it needs a huge expansion.

- Note; It's only two years old, there won't be much more to say than the format and structure, which is all in there, so although maybe it is quite short, there isn't really any information you can put in there. Philc T+C 22:22, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe Football League First Division is more deserving of expansion, as not only is it smaller, but it has a longer history, and it is the division that was replaced by the Championship. Philc T+C 22:37, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
- Good Plan, I'll change it. Kingfisherswift 09:40, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Aren't both articles more or less the samething? Kingjeff 05:20, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- They both fill the same gap in the football league system, but two seasons ago the championship replaced the first division. Philc T+C 13:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Football in Brazil (4 votes in 14 days)
[edit]After having recently sat through a somewhat lengthy documentary on the history of football in Brazil, I know for a fact that not only is there a considerably large amount of information to be put in theis article, that also quite alot of it is interesting too.

[edit]I'm renominating this after reading Poulsen's comments on the talk page about getting articles to featured standard. I think this article is close to FA standard and with a bit of cleanup and some more info on his time in Spain (not really my strong point) we could get it on the main page. - Don't see why we couldn't improve this to FA standard, so what the hell? Kingfisherswift 12:40, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
- I say go for peer review, not much more we can do for it info wise, I think, peer review would help us set it up for FA. HornetMike 22:36, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Football/soccer is the number 1 team sport in Austria. This is quite short for a top sport. The article consist of 1 very short introduction paragraph and another paragraph talking about the Austrian Bundesliga.

It's a new article just started today. He's a top footballer for Austria. Stuff that needs to be worked on is
- completing the career stats table,
- info about his career and
- any other relevent info regarding himself.

[edit]Very important player both in Italy (top scorer in 2001/02, 95 goals in 151 matches with Juventus) and with the French team (31 goals in 60 matches, golden goal for the 2000 EuroCup, etc), and also listed in the FIFA 100 best players list. Other than the info box, the article is almost empty.

[edit]At best I was dissapointed to find how poor this article is when it is on the oldest survivng national football competition in the world, their should be swathes of information, and history on this article.

- It is not "the oldest surviving competition in the world". That honour goes to the FA Cup which commenced in 1871-72. Alias Flood 01:35, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

- Can we say that this is "the oldest surviving competition in the world for national teams"? Kingjeff 02:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm pretty sure this is the oldest NT football competition in the world. Bruno18 20:25, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- The first international football match was played in 1872 between England and Scotland, although at this stage the sport was rarely played outside Great Britain. As football began to increase in popularity, it was held as a demonstration sport (with no medals awarded) at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics, and at the 1906 Intercalated Games football became an official competition at the 1908 Summer Olympics. To be correct, it would need to qualify itself as being a national event and outside the olympics. -- Alias Flood 03:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Look, if you thinks it wrong, change the article, don't just post here, this is why it needs improvement, if its this wrong. Philc TECI 17:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

- I added a club career stats table and put in a few stats. But I can't find most of the stats for him. Kingjeff 18:09, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Is it just me or are the articles we're nominating have little or no importance, and won't be worked on anyway? Last week I nominated Watford F.C., and no-one helped work on it! Maybe we should call it a day on the whole article improvement drive. Hate to be sceptical, but just being realistic. Kingfisherswift 16:38, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
