WikiProject Final Fantasy
WikiProject Final Fantasy
WikiProject Final Fantasy is a collaboration designed to improve the quality of Wikipedia material related to Square Enix's popular Final Fantasy series of role-playing video games. This WikiProject covers any topic directly related to the installments of the Final Fantasy series, as well as spin-offs, future titles, and related people and companies.

Our goals are to:

  • standardize content by implementing our manual of style, following guidelines accepted by the project, adhering to policy, and improving the quality of content; and
  • set a precedent among WikiProjects by improving all related material to at least Good Article or Featured List status.

As a means to these ends, this project is a place where editors can discuss goals and address issues by building consensus.

If you are interested in joining the WikiProject, please feel free to add your name to the Participants list below, and find yourself an article to adopt. For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

Goals
[edit]
Our first goal is to "standardize content by implementing our manual of style, following guidelines accepted by the project, adhering to policy, and improving the quality of content". Our manual of style is constantly enforced and updated; in general, this goal is already attained. However, sometimes it slips away, questions about new additions come up, or changes are made. In these cases, it is important to make sweeping changes to enforce the new version of the manual of style. Other times, ideas are tested on articles and then added to the manual. In general, this goal is attained through adherence to our manual of style, which in turn adheres to all policies and most guidelines.

The manual of style is updated or tweaked when there is consensus to make those changes. In a case where the manual of style needs to be updated to follow policy, it is acceptable and imperative to change it quickly. Please remember that there is a significant difference between policy and guideline, as addressed above.

In many cases, drastic measures need to be taken to ensure material follows policy and our manual of style. This is done by nominating articles for deletion, blocking vandals, upholding consensus in a firm but civil manner, and holding talkpage discussions.

Goal Two states that the project intends to "set a precedent among WikiProjects by improving all material to at least Good Article or Featured List status". This is an attainable long-term goal if material follows all policies, the notability guidelines for fiction, and the manual of style. For information on plans being hatched to attain this goal, view the project discussion page. This goal will require synergy and hard work, but the reward is a sense of accomplishment, a major contribution to the information revolution, and perhaps an unprecedented pinnacle on Wikipedia. Of course, attaining this goal will possibly take several years.

Our short-term goal is to elevate all released main game articles to at least Good Article status. The following are released main game articles that still need to be elevated to this standard:

Hall of Fame
[edit]
The following members of our WikiProject have helped extensively in Good Article and Featured Article pushes; specifically, those who have been with the project for more than a year and have significantly contributed to at least 3 Final Fantasy-related Featured Articles. They are listed in alphabetical order.
Bluer
This user has written or significantly contributed to six Featured articles on Wikipedia.

Bluerfn (Bluer) joined Wikipedia in July 2006. The most recent addition to the Hall of Fame, Bluer has blazed a trail of 5 Featured Articles (FA) in a short time. His exploits were mostly focused around Ivalice related articles, such as Ivalice, Final Fantasy XII FA, Final Fantasy Tactics , Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and the new Ivalice games that have and will be released such as Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Tactics A2 and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. Bluer also helped with Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VIII and Vagrant Story FAs.

Crazyswordsman
This user has written or significantly contributed to five Featured articles on Wikipedia.

Crazyswordsman (CSM) joined Wikipedia in December 2005. He has been a major source of information and detail for Final Fantasy and gaming articles. His passionate work pushing for FAs on the older FF games has been without parallel. CSM has been an invaluable member of the team during FA reviews, tirelessly editing and providing help whenever needed. CSM has extensively worked on at least 5 FAs. Outside WPFF, CSM has worked on the Chrono series of articles, as well as the Link (Legend of Zelda) FA. CSM also participates in the Final Fantasy Wikia, an excellent source for in-depth information that cannot be covered on Wikipedia.

Deckiller
This user has written or significantly contributed to thirteen Featured articles on Wikipedia.

Deckiller (Deck or Tyler) joined Wikipedia in July 2005. He has been invaluable to WPFF by providing feedback on what Wikipedia policies and current editing practices are relevant to our articles. Deck has nominated/co-nominated and sponsored many of the WPFF bids for FA and Good Article (GA) status. He has been a leader in trying to get WPFF to be a good example of how fiction can be well displayed in Wikipedia. Deck has been extensively involved in the editing or nomination of twelve FAs, the copy-editing of several others, and the Final Fantasy VIII featured topic. His other focuses on Wikipedia include copy-editing, reviewing featured article candidates, editing various non-fiction articles, performing administrative functions, and other tasks.

Hibana
This user has written or significantly contributed to three Featured articles on Wikipedia.

Hibana (Andrew) joined Wikipedia in July 2005. He was instrumental in tweaking several of our featured articles, as well as pushing some of the main articles, such as Final Fantasy V, to GA status. Hibana was also a major component to the maintenance of our GAs and FAs during most of 2006. Unfortunately, this user left Wikipedia in late 2006, like many of the original members of the project.

Pre-2006 team

The pre-2006 team helped to lay the foundation of the Wikiproject; many of them went on to help in the 2006 FA pushes. Unfortunately, none of them remain active in the project.

Renmiri
This user has written or significantly contributed to three Featured articles on Wikipedia.

Renmiri (Ren) joined Wikipedia in January 2006. She was immediately a major help in the 2006 GA and FA pushes, especially those related to the former featured topic, Final Fantasy X. Ren has also improved many articles with images, general advice, and stylistic fixes. She also strives to establish a positive atmosphere within the project. Her work outside the project includes improving the Link (Legend of Zelda) Featured Article, formatting/design, fixing categorization, and general cleanup.

Ryu Kaze
This user has written or significantly contributed to seven Featured articles on Wikipedia.

Ryu Kaze (Ryu) is perhaps the user who sparked the entire 2006 GA/FA project. He arrived on Wikipedia in January 2006, and his edits were Final Fantasy-related from the onset. With more than 5,000 edits in the short period of 6 months, Ryu quickly blazed a trail of achievements for the project and for Wikipedia as a whole, with seven Featured Articles, fifteen barnstars, and many other honors. Ryu's greatest contributions were leading the substantial rewriting of the Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy X-2 articles, among several others, to make them concise, comprehensive, and worthy of a FA nomination. Ryu's leadership did not stop at WPFF articles; during his much too short period at Wikipedia, he also has weighed in during many editor disputes to the benefit of civility; he also lend a hand to many other projects, including the Shadow of the Colossus FA push. Ryu has also translated many Japanese pages from the Final Fantasy Ultimania books and has scanned countless of pictures for articles.

ZeWrestler
This user has written or significantly contributed to nine Featured articles on Wikipedia.

ZeWrestler joined Wikipedia in August 2003. In his time with WikiProject Final Fantasy, he made a large series of tweaks to our articles, with more substantial work geared toward the middle of the series, such as Final Fantasy VI. ZeWestler has also worked substantially on an array of projects and topics outside WPFF.
