WikiProject Cycling is the focus for reaching consensus decisions concerning articles within the scope of the WikiProject as interpretation of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. This page lists consensus decisions with a brief explanation to the consensus arrived at and a link to where the discussion or discussions were found. It is intended that this page is a reference to those discussions in order to find where discussions took place rather than to supersede the discussions and consensus reached.
Consensus can change, so if you do not agree with this consensus, you are free to discuss them, but please read the reasons for the current consensus, given in these consensus discussions, first. New discussions should take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cycling or the relevant talk pages.
Cycling team nationalities
[edit]- Trade cycling teams do not represent the country in which they are registered. As such, nationality should not be implied in tables through the use of flag templates (for example {{flagicon}}, {{flagathlete}} etc). (July 2009)
Use of {{Infobox cyclist}}
[edit]- Future teams should not be listed in the infobox (although contract news can be explained in the prose of the article) to comply with WP:CRYSTAL. (September 2009)
- Jersey icons should not be used within the Major wins section to comply with WP:ICONDECORATION. (July–August 2010)
Race start lists
[edit]- Race start lists should be limited to only Grand Tours (the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España), World Championships and the Olympics (WP:INDISCRIMINATE). (May 2011; deletion)
Team article win section formatting
[edit]Wins should be listed as an unbulleted list which conforms to one of the below formats depending upon the type of victory. There should only be one comma placed after the race name and before the rider name. (December 2014)
Type of victory | Example format text |
---|---|
One day race win (e.g, Milan–San Remo) |
|
Overall stage race (e.g, Vuelta a España) |
|
Stage race stage win (e.g, Stage 10 Tour de France) |
|
Stage win with overall race win (where # is the stage number) |
