The following instructions and templates are provided to assist contest coordinators of the Cricket Wikiproject to administer the project's contests.
General article expansion and new article creation contests
[edit]Steps to be followed
[edit]These steps should be followed when closing the monthly contest:
- At the end of the month, the contests should be closed. This should ideally be done in the first few days of the new month. To do this, firstly, the entries subpage (for the general contest only) should be reset. This is done by moving the current entries down to the log, and then the previous months' entries from the log to the archive log (the archive can be found here).
- Each contributors' entries should then be verified. This can be done by one or more coordinators. Involved coordinators should not verify their own entries (if a coordinator has submitted an entry, then please ping another coordinator to verify your entry), but can verify other contestants' entries. Verification entails checking that the article has been re-assessed within the scoring period, that the points claimed are correct based on the points table and that editor claiming the points is entitled to do so (based on the instructions for contestants). Where an article has not been re-assessed in the scoring period, it should simply be moved to the next month's subpage with an appropriate edit summary. Once an entry has been verified, the verifying coordinator should sign the "checked" column with the four tildes.
- Once all entries have been verified, the points for each contestant can be tallied. This can be done in a number of ways, depending on the closing coordinator's preference. One suggested method is to copy the table of entries into an Excel spreadsheet. This allows a simple sort to be used to group each contestants' entries, which can then be used to automatically add up the number of entries and points per contestant. These figures will then be used to determine first and second place, to update the annual scoreboard and summarise the results for the month.
- To award consistent performance, the results of each monthly contest are cumulatively tallied on the scoreboard over the course of the year (January to December), and the editor with the highest number of points overall at the end of the December contest of the general article expansion contest will receive the Cricket Editor of the Year Trophy and the Writer's Barnstar, while the editor with the highest number of points overall at the end of the December contest of the new article contest will receive the Article Creator's Cup.
- The closing coordinator should then hand out the awards based on the following schedule for both contests: the first place-getter will receive the Golden Bat, while the second place-getter will be awarded the Silver Bat.
- Once the awards have been handed out, and the scoreboard updated, the closing coordinator should summarise the results in corresponding edition of The Leg Stump. (For example, for a contest that ends in June, the results should be published in the July edition). The following should be mentioned: the total number of contestants involved, the number of articles entered, and those that took part. The place-getters should be linked, and all contestants mentioned by name.
- At the end of each year, the annual contest scoreboard should be archived here. The scoreboard should then be initialized for the following year and the tally will start over again.
Photo contest
[edit]- Coordinators should allow entries for the next months contest to be submitted a month in advance; i.e. the June contests photos are submitted in May and voted on for 25 days in June, with the winner announced at the end of the month. Once entries close, they should be submitted to the project talk page with the following message:
===Photo contest entries=== Cricket photo of the month entries for INSERT MONTH have now been submitted. Project members are invited to vote for their favourite photo over at the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject_Cricket/Contests#Photo_contest|contest page]]. Congratulations to {{u|INSERT USERNAME}} who won the INSERT MONTH contest with [[INSERT WIKICOMMONS LINK|their entry INSERT PHOTO TITLE]].
- Voting should be allowed to run for approximately 25 days between issues of The Leg Stump. Project coordinators should then confirm the votes and message the winning contestant.
- The corresponding edition of The Leg Stump should then be updated to showcase the winning photo, with the winner invited to caption the photo.
Quiz
[edit]- Contests who gain a correct answer my update the points total themselves.
- Contest coordinators just need to keep an eye that no 'extra' points sneak into the points table.
- At the end of the year, coordinators should double check that the points accumulated per contestant match up to the correct answers given.
- The points table rolls over to the next there, there is no re-set.
- The project coordinators can then award the contestant who tops the leader board with the Champions Trophy.
