Description
[edit]Social movements are in important part of most modern societies (for a good impression on the breadth of the subject, see Category:Social movements). There are tens of thousands of movements, and plenty of associated topics (my favorites include Category:Protests by issue) yet on Wikipedia we have no project organizing this field, other than some theoretical aspects being covered by the Sociology WikiProject (which would likely be the parent project). I wonder if there would be enough interested editors to justify creating a dedicated WikiProject? See also past discussions here and here. Discussion
[edit]Think that this project is the best home for many biographies, organizations, and topics that are scattered around. Now many of these articles are buried in large project that don't appreciate the significance of social change done through social movements or the people that focused on bringing about societal change. Bringing all together here will draw attention to this aspect of the article which in my opinion is often the underlying factor that makes them significant, interesting, and notable. - A very valid point, a lot of the articles that fall under this subject have not even been assessed yet (I've just assessed 2009 G-20 London summit protests for WP:LONDON... for which it is a low-class, but for social movements, it is a much more important event). Yet assessing this project for WP:SOCIOLOGY would be rather a stretch. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:55, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing as there is little interest, I am now considering creating a social movement task force within WikiProject Sociology. Thoughts? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:16, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- That is probably the best way to go. --FloNight♥♥♥♥ 23:21, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
