Description
[edit]Rihanna is one of the most talented singers ever and she has a substantial number of Wikipedia articles written about her, some of them considered good articles. There are several users that are dedicated to writing high-quality articles about her music and related content, and and would be great if we had a WikiProject for central discussion, organisation and guidance Vítor&R (talk) 15:02, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- She is hugely successful and has an hugely increasing amount of articles. Lady Gaga has a Wiki Project and hasn't released nearly as many albums and certainly not as many singles as Rihanna (Who has 10 #1 singles in the Hot 100 and are very successful). Britney Spears hasn't got a good voice (she said so herself), yet she has a Wiki project, so the point about people below saying Rihanna is "talentless" is rendered redundant. I would support all the articles if a Rihanna Wiki Project was created (well, I do that already..) Calvin • 999 19:11, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I happen to think Britney has a much nicer voice than Rihanna. The notes on "Unfaithful" are unbearable. Lastly, as for Spears, her music has achieved much more success than Rihanna, not just in sales, but in fanbase. Lastly, I don't think Gaga deserves a WikiProject either, so know that.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 22:10, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Britney has a weak voice. Listen to the S&M remix. Rihanna belts strong and resonant notes, whereas Britney sounds nasal and unsupported. Why else does she lip-sync all the time? Because she can't sing her songs live (which are so incredibly vocally poor, even I could sing them!). Her songs are masked in auto-tune to cover her more than average voice she has. If she walked into the X Factor auditions now with that voice, she wouldn't make it past the first round. Britney's had five #1s in 13 years, Rihanna has had ten #1s in 5 years. Britney has sold approx. 100 million records (albums, singles etc.) in 13 years globally, Rihanna has sold 80 million in 6 years. The gap isn't as wide as what people think. Calvin • 999 23:13, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- You seem to forget a few things. Britney could sing, and used to sing all her material live, and sound much better IMO than Rihanna. Next, aside from #1s, Rihanna has never had a #1 album in the US. And the remix, where Britney (now she is sadly not the sames as before) Rihanna sounds whiny as ever. Lastly, Rihanna has sold 20 million albums and 60 million singles, that is nothing. Albums represent the sale of over 10-12 singles each (99 cents versus 14.99). So for 60 million singles, Britney needs to sell maybe 5 million albums. And she's sold over 70! so unless Rihanna sells a billion singles, there is no comparison in sheer money labels earned and how much fans actually bought from the artist. And record wise, Britney is in the 120 range, whether or not a source is currently available.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 23:21, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- But in popular references, 'records' are what a singer is defined by. And in terms of record sales, compiling all types of releases, they are only 20 million apart. You have to admit Rihanna has done very well in 6 years. I don't think Britney has ever had a good voice, it's the same now as 13 years ago, no development. Rihanna has a much stronger voice and better tone. Britney has actually said herself but she doesn't think she has a good voice. And a #1 album is purely based on who else is releasing at that time. It's like Loud, it debuted with 207,000 units sold at #3, yet in it's 11th week, it only sold 66,000, and peaked at #3 again. I find Rihanna a lot more preferable to Britney, who seems to be an American treasure. I wish Britney would give a reason herself as to why she lip-syncs everything, because I think it is disgraceful! But whatever, it's up to you who you prefer, and I prefer Rihanna. lol. - Well I really think that Rihanna has to had a WikiProject, cause definetelly she is talented, and above that she has a huge success, 10 number one in the States, and Multi-Platinum in maybe more than 35 countries. And what on Wikipedia? It's shame that she has only 6 GA, 1 FL and 2 DYK. For that I think that that Wikiproject should exist, so WE, the users which are interested in her career and success contribute and give to Wikipedia and of course to Rihanna a good, solid articles, I hope the project will be released. And per the instructions, I will be one of the first who will join. Greetings Tomica1111 (talk) 15:17, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Rihanna deserves a wikiproject. She has numerous singles, albums, awards. She is recognized as one of the best female musicians. She may not be critically acclaimed but she is successful, in fact, very successful. If female singers like Beyonce and Lady GaGa can have wiki projects when they do not have so many singles and albums ,nevertheless the same commercial success as Rihanna, then why can't Rihanna? (I am also mentioning Beyonce so that you people do not say that i am only taking the names of others.) Jivesh • Talk2Me 15:43, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Considering that there is a WP:GAGA, Rihanna's scope is much larger and would benefit from a WikiProject. There seems to be user support also. I Help, When I Can.[12] 15:56, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Support, as Rihanna is currently the most popular female singer in terms of internet hits. Best, --Discographer (talk) 23:37, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I still do not think its necessary, and will certainly not be joining once initiated, but, if you guys really want to better her discography, and feel a project is necessary or helpful, then I don't think its fair I try and stop you. Good Luck.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 20:16, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you, we really need it. Tomica1111 (talk) 20:20, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Five albums, thirty-five singles, ten number ones, twenty million albums, sixty million singles. She can have a wikiproject. Pixelyoshi (discuter) 23:38, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I have to agree with Nathan here. But, I will not be joining as I already have my hands full at the moment.Novice7 (talk) 04:31, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]- I think this project might be better suited to a task force. Maybe WP Music would be a good place for it. -- Thomas888b (Say Hi) 21:01, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Why not keep this in Wikipedia:WikiProject R&B and Soul Music? That way you will have a community of editors to help you. --Kleinzach 10:34, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Are there 100+ articles about her? ℥nding·start 14:34, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Are there 100+ about Lady Gaga? Nope, but she has a Wiki Project. Rihanna has a lot more articles than Gaga. calvin999 (talk) 19:13, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- To all supporters, please indicate per the instructions whether or not you would join the project. Only one or two have. —Andrewstalk 10:09, 30 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose
[edit]- There are many singers/artists more deserving of a WikiProject. When I say this, I mean in terms of information about them. Who Am I Why Am I Here? (talk) 01:15, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Per discussion and above. Wilbysuffolk talk 14:08, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think she deserves one yet per discussion above. Novice7 (talk) 04:36, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]Per comments above me. Lol at the "talented singer" part though.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 06:54, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Like yours, the comments above on this section don't have any arguments. Should be ignored. VítoR™ get LOUD! 14:03, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- According to WP:PROJGUIDE, there must be enough pages to create a project. At present, there are about 50 Rihanna articles. Users might finish the work off easily and then the project might fall into the "non-active" list. In my opinion, a task force of R&B-Soul music is better. Wikiprojects are to keep the articles under the particular topic well-organized. Most of Rihanna's articles are in a good state. Novice7 (talk) 17:14, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I just made a proposal. Agree or not, I just wanted to read valid arguments. I understand what you mean, there really are enough articles to create a project, but might fall into the "non-active" list like you said. VítoR™ get LOUD! 20:03, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose for now. I saw the table and it shows almost 50% of the 104 "articles" are not in the mainspace. More than 5 song-related articles have been passed as GA without having a formal wikiproject dedicated to Rihanna. Therefore, no need really of a WikiProject. If you want to have an organized team, you may create a taskforce instead. And IMO, WikiProject are not about sales, fame, status. After all, Wikipedia in an encyclopedia that is basically a repository of information. Perhaps more years from now and more bulk of information, and this proposal shall get myriad support. Thanks. --Efe (talk) 13:43, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
