The proposed WikiProject was created as Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Esports

Description
[edit]Electronic sports, or esports, has grown beyond being simply included as just another section of video gaming culture. Tens of millions of people watch tournaments and competitions. An entire industry has grown behind it, and Wikipedia seems to be greatly lacking in material describing any of it. The scope of the Wikiproject would be to cover the different people, places, organizations and topics that constitute esports. Solomonarius (talk) 04:41, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
Electronic sports and competitive video gaming has become a legitimate industry with tens of millions of followers. However, Wikipedia has little to no content on any of it. There are thousands of notable players, hundreds of teams, major competitions and tournaments that are televised or streamed online, official casters and commentators, competitive gaming organizations and many more things that remain poorly documented on Wikipedia. The goal of the WikiProject would be to better organize all available information related to electronic sports and competitive video gaming.
Support
[edit]Also, specify whether or not you would join the project.
Oppose
[edit]- Oppose because this is too small of a subject, instead, this should be a part of the video gameWikiProject and be a subsection, similar to the indie one.
Discussion
[edit]The fact that you said "Wikipedia has little to no content on any of it." also suggests to me that Wikipedia has little to no editors who are interested in it, and, in turn, not enough members to support a whole WikiProject. I'd normally say "This would be much better off as a Task Force under WikiProject Video games", but the problem is that that task force has died twice already, most recently at the start of the year. Just edit the articles and take part with WP:VG. The Task Force, banner and inevitable "We need a logo" rubbish can come later.- X201 (talk) 08:27, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
