Description
[edit]This is a proposal for another maintenance-type project (like the Guild of Copyeditors or WikiProject Wikify). An old task I used to do (and sometimes, still do) is clean up link rot from Metacritic's overhaul last year. I thought to myself, "why isn't there a project dedicated to repairing dead links?" There is a total of 311,439 entries in Category:All articles with dead external links - that's just way too much, and I believe that forming a group of Wikipedians dedicated to repairing dead links would help to drastically knock that number down. Discussion
[edit]- Question What other projects cover link repair — directly or indirectly — at the moment? --Kleinzach 06:25, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Wikipedia:WikiProject External links. However, I believe that the problem is large enough to warrant being the single focus of a WikiProject. --Dylan620 (t • c) 09:45, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Maybe it would be a good idea to tell Wikipedia:WikiProject External links about this proposal? --Kleinzach 12:29, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Good idea. I consider it especially important to fix dead reference links. There are a couple tools that allow you to quickly and easily check the Internet Archive for archived versions of dead links. See Wikipedia:Link rot#Tools. -- Ϫ 06:27, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Wayback operation & external link fixing is big enough for its own project Wekn reven i susej eht Talk• Follow 10:24, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
