Discussion
[edit]I'd like to establish a Project (or a Work Group) for Cigars, dedicated to improving the company histories of the innumerable cigarmakers, providing pages relating to the main components used in cigarmaking, and otherwise improving Wikipedia's coverage of cigarmaking.
As you can see from List of cigar brands, there are is a vast amount of work remaining to be done on this topic. What I have in mind is a series of company histories similar to my new (as yet unillustrated) page Oliva (cigar brand).
There is reliable third-party sourcing available for the cigarmaking industry (notably Cigar Aficionado magazine and its related website). There are pretty clearly other editors out there interested in the topic, and I feel that establishment of such a Project would be beneficial to spurring and coordinating effort in this neglected aspect of Wikipedia coverage.
There are no Projects currently existing on this subject, as nearly as I can tell. I don't know if the best schema would be to establish a "Tobacco" project with a "Cigars" work group, or whether a "Cigars" work group could be integrated under the "Food and Drink" project, or whether "Cigars" should be a free-standing project.
Thanks. Carrite (talk) 17:26, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Free-standing sounds best to me. Not sure I can articulate why; it just does. Mark Shaw (talk) 17:53, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would you consider expanding the scope of the group to all of tobacco, not just cigars? That is, it would include all of what you're currently interested in, plus cigarettes, chewing tobacco, the tobacco plant, etc. (Obviously, members who are interested specifically in cigars would work on those articles, but then anyone who was interested in cigarettes could join, too.)
