Wiki Loves Heritage is an annual national photo contest from Wikimedia Belgium, that is a spin-off and extension of the global Wiki Loves Monuments, to include images of movable and intangible heritage, landscapes, folklore, crafts, and museum collections.
It was organised for the first time in 2018 by Wikimedia Belgium.
It aims to document Belgian heritage, culture and traditions (both tangible and intangible), including monuments. The primary focus is on taking and uploading photos, including metadata, but also describing the topics on Wikidata and Wikipedia.
Since 15 July 2016, Belgium has freedom of panorama, which allows you to take photographs from a public place and also at permanent public exhibitions. Other laws such as general copyright, privacy, and the personality rights remain in place and museums can impose their own restrictions.
The competition runs from 1 July 2023 to 30 September 2023, with a special focus on Living Heritage in 2023, marking the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage.
