Request on 00:02:52, 12 July 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Nfoote

[edit]

My submission has been rejected three times because of "promotional language" or "reads like a CV". I have studied so many other biographies posted on Wikipedia and am having a tough time understanding what the differences are in what I've submitted and what's already been published. I want to get this correct for this individual so I know how to do this correctly in the future.

Thank you.

Hi, Neil Foote. In reading the article, it isn't clear to me what you are putting forth about the subject that would show notability. In Wikipedia, notability is supported through references, and those references must be from reliable sources and they must be "substantially about" the subject of the article. Taking a few examples from your article, your first reference goes to a page for Ebony magazine but I don't see anything on that page about Shamsid-Deen. So that isn't a good reference. I also see two references in Variety that are about a film he worked on but that do not mention his name - so those aren't usable references here, because references must be about him, not about something he is related to elsewhere. He's listed in the reference in "FamousFix.com" (which may or may not be a reliable source - I've never heard of it), but just being named, while it may verify a fact, it isn't substantially about him, so it doesn't count for notability. You need to look hard at the references and figure out which ones really show why he is important, and use those as the primary basis of your article. Pay special attention to which sources are reliable and which are not; for example, you cannot use Goodreads as a source because there's no editorial control. You also should not use a bookstore (Abebooks) as a reference, and his own works can go into a "Works" section, but they are not to be referenced because they are BY him not ABOUT him. Only articles about him should be used as references. LaMona (talk) 20:45, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am having problems with the notability of the page, not sure why it does not work. Can you please help me with this?

Danni Sabic (talk) 12:15, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, to me there appears to be a problem on our end with this. I will try to work with SwisterTwister to resolve this. ~Kvng (talk) 23:27, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Danni Sabic: I've suggested on the draft a few things that could be done to improve the draft's chances. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:04, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my article has been declined, could you tell me why whereas our rival company Alpha Karting has its own page please ? What is the differences between their page and mine ?

Adel9632 (talk) 13:50, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Alpha Karting has now been deleted as it failed to establish its subject's notability. Maproom (talk) 20:32, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi there. I have placed a draft article in my Sandbox. It has been declined as it fails the paid editor guidelines. As I tried to make clear when I submitted the draft, my understanding of your conflict of interest policies are that, as a paid editor, it was unlikely that I would be able to create the page for SICPA. If there is a way in which I can then I would be very pleased to understand how that works and I would be very willing to follow any process you stipulate. My idea was more to provide information on SICPA and see if anyone was interested in taking this on. I have no doubt that I have not done this properly but you'll have to forgive me as this is far from my day job! If there is an establish approach and format that I should follow to initiate things properly please let me know. I really do think that, unlike maybe some organisations that want to appear on Wikipedia, there is a real reason for the inclusion of SICPA. The company is the world's leading supplier of ink for banknotes and the inventor of many of the more well known security inks in use today. Any help you can give me in how I should go about this properly would be gratefully received.Iainplunkett (talk) 15:34, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Iainplunkett. The draft has potential. I've fixed the misplaced paid editor disclosure that the reviewer pointed out, and have left a lengthy comment on the draft. --Worldbruce (talk) 07:24, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

All the images were taken out of my article, and apparently also the code for those. I was in the process of receiving written permissions from the artist and was going to send those today. Can you restore the previous version of the article with the paintings?

Roycegrubic (talk) 16:00, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Roycegrubic, the images can be restored when the licencing has been correctly done, not before. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:50, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
