[edit]I want to submit this article for publication in Wikipedia
'Sikh History in 10 volumes'.
I have already created draft and sent the same to you. Gurdev Singh — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gurdevsinghsidhu (talk • contribs) 10:35, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Much of that draft is not supported by reliable sources, and while the launch of the first two volumes has received some newspaper coverage listed in the draft's "references" section, you should use inline citations and footnotes to show which of the draft's statements is supported by which source.
- The draft's tone is unduly promotional and is not supported by the sources. For example, phrases such as "landmark in the history of the Sikhs" would require not just a source, but attribution to that source: "Historian John Doe called the work a 'landmark in the history of the Sikhs'."
- I'd also say the content summary is much too detailed. The source that gives the most detail in that regard is the India Express, and that only gives the eras covered in each volume. A little more than that would surely be acceptable, but it should be based on secondary sources such as reviews in scholarly journals.
- Right now, with the Indian Express covering the release of the first two volumes in detail and the Tribune only providing a very short summary that tells us nothing about the books themselves, even the work's notability seems doubtful. The other sources are a bookseller, a duplicate of the Express article and a YouTube video, all of which are either not reliable or not independent and don't serve to establish notability. More detailed reviews in historical or theological journals would not only help us write a better summary of the work's content but also resolve the notability issue. Hi there, I've re-submitted an article for review -"Richard Matthew Carlin (Drummer/Promoter)"-, however I cleaned up the code etc as two copies of the article appeared and this the first time I have contributed an article so I wasn't sure? I just wanted to make sure in me doing so it hasn't affected my article being reviewed.
Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Richard Matthew Carlin (Drummer/Promoter)
Pearlykick (talk) 13:15, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Your draft is correctly submitted for review; as long as there's a "Review waiting" message and it's categorized among the pending AfC submissions (the very last line), everything is OK.
- However, the draft's content and the sources have at best a rather tenuous connection. The "Dead or American" section cites no sources at all, and the "Vision Fighting Championship" section cites only a primary source that doesn't mention Carlin at all. I don't think any of the draft's sources comes close to the significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject that we need to establish Carlin's notability. I'd also like to see a source for his middle name and a source connecting Carlin the drummer to Carlin the MMA promoter. The current sources don't establish they're the same person. After multiple revisions, I cannot get this article approved. Please let me know why this is not getting approved. Thanks!

- As several authors have mentioned, your article does not cite any reliable sources. The sole source is the companies website, which is generally not considered independent coverage, which we require. If you do not add any other sources to your article, it will never be accepted. Have you read Referencing for beginners? --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:28, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Review of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Day
[edit]I've tried to make the suggested corrections to the article, but I don't know how to resubmit it to the reviewers? Thanks, Cbmbryant (talk) 18:04, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- I have resubmitted the article for you. You can do so yourself by adding {{subst:submit}} to the very top.
- However, I don't think your new references suffice to establish notability. I found the Round Square News article, and it's a primary source, a report on a Round Square conference. The C&CR article is another primary source written by The Day editor Miranda Green. Stefan Stern on Management is a blog, not a reliable source. I didn't find the Times Education Supplement article despite checking their archive of articles for April 1, 2011. You didn't give a title, making the search a lot more difficult. I also didn't find the Maison Claire Fontaine News, but I doubt that's a reliable source anyway. School House has so generic a title that I wouldn't even know where to look for that publication. Can you all please approve my wikipedia page, so i can build my bio to the rest of the world ! I really just signed a major deal.

- None of the draft's current references even mention Lil' Ernez. We need significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as newspaper articles, both to establish the subject's notability and to allow our readers to verify the article's content. Without such sources we cannot accept the draft. Has the "major deal" received newspaper coverage?
- You may also want to read our guideline on conflicts of interest. Writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged. Huon (talk) 21:31, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Phen375
[edit]Good morning, I work as SEO Manager for Phen375, we would like to create a page about our product. Phen375. can you provide me further information about it and about the right procedure in order to create it.
thank you.

- First of all you may want to read our guideline on conflicts of interest. Writing about your company's product is discouraged, especially when you aim for SEO and not the creation of encyclopedic content. Wikipedia is not a free advertisement agency. See also WP:SPAM.
- If your product has been the subject of sigificant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the compay, such as newspaper articles (not press releases!), you can request an article via WP:Requested articles and its sub-pages. Please add the sources to your request. However, I believe your product is Phentermine, and your attempts to spam that article have already been largely reverted. We cannot accept a second article on the same subject just to promote your company.
- If your company has been the subject of sigificant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the compay, you may be better off requesting an article on the company - the relevant subpage is Wikipedia:Requested articles/Business and economics/Companies. You can also try and write an article on the company yourself via the Article Wizard. However, conflicts of interest such as yours tend to show in the drafts, and we cannot accept advertisement masquerading as an article. As I said, writing about a topic where you have a conflict of interest is discouraged, and for good reason. Huon (talk) 23:24, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello there,
Weeks ago my first attempt to create a new profile for actor/singer Lini Evans was rejected by Skinnzy for reason of "insufficient reliable sources". I'm having difficulty knowing what exactly constitutes "reliable sources", so any help would be most appreciated. For example, in noting her multilingual singing performance for the renowned CCTV, should I cite http://space.tv.cctv.com/article/ARTI1240884117978397? (You'll see her name is in English just 2 lines above Avril's photo, amidst all the Chinese writing). There are pages and pages of reputable sources online about Lini, however many of the sources are written in Chinese!
She is already mentioned on another Wikipedia page, see 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Chinese_%28Vancouver%29_Pageant. How should this be referenced? Perhaps I should have added a [1] after her Reference for Fairchild TV?
Or would I also need to provide archived links to newspaper articles written about her? An entire article was written about Lini in the Vancouver SUN prior to her prestigious singing for Chinese Premier but since it was in 1999 it's not easily accessible. Please note most of her highest-profile engagements are Invite-only and Live, attended by MLAs, premiers, mayors etc.
If her IMDb credits, which have all been verified BY IMDb prior to posting, are insufficient for Wikipedia, what else do you need to prove Lini's numerous accredited film & tv credits?
I note that a fellow actor/friend of hers, Ali Liebert, has no citations in her Stub Profile. Would STUB be a preferred option for Lini?
Thank you for any help! Jim J.S. 23:47, 19 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nathanhoody (talk • contribs)
- What we're looking for are reliable sources that are indepedent of the subject: Sources known for fact-checking and accuracy. Newspaper coverage or articles in music magazines would be most likely for Evans. The CCTV page appears to be a repost of something from the Shanghai Media Group, and if it's CCTV writing on a performance for CCTV, it's not independent, but a primary source anyway. Similarly, Fairchild TV apparently is the co-orgaizer of the event it reports on, again not an independent source. Other Wikipedia articles aren't reliable sources either; citing Wikipedia would be circular. IMDb is just a directory and doesn't contribute much to her notability, and biographical information on IMDb is less reliable than we'd like. Links to newspaper articles about her would be much better. Sources need not be available online; if you can provide sufficient bibliographical details to clearly identify the source, offline newspaper articles are entirely accpetable - we'd probably need publication date and page number at a minimum, author and title would be nice. Please note that Wikipedia content must be based on such independent reliable sources; for example, the claim that "Evans has continued her multifaceted career and has also gained recognition as a singer-songwriter and voice-over artist" would need a source that says so - and I doubt you can gain recognition without being recognized in newspapers or music magazines.
- The Ali Liebert article reads like puffery and also doesn't cite any reliable independent sources (and it's tagged for that problem), but while other insufficiently sourced articles exist, that's no reason to create more; each submission must stand on its own merits. Instead we should either improve or delete the Liebert article. Huon (talk) 00:30, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you Huon for you very quick and helpful response. Taking your suggestions, I have now rewritten and re-submitted my Profile creation plus provide numerous reliable third-party sources below re Lini Evans. Several of these are available to view online at http://www.linievans.com/media.html (Lini is also featured on a reputable talent agent's website at http://www.tenbc.com/lini-evans-multilingual-singer). I do hope this will result in a successful entry.
Third-party Sources:
- journalist Marke Andrews' April 20, 1999 lengthy article on page B10 titled "Multilingual Evans to sing for Zhu" printed in The Vancouver SUN (Pacific Newspaper Group Inc. of Postmedia Network)
- staff reporter Lena Sin's April 23, 2009 article on page B3 cover story for E-Weekend titled "Gala evening showcases Shanghai" printed in The Province newspaper(Pacific Newspaper Group Inc. of Postmedia Network)
