April 9

[edit]

Dear Help Desk:

My recent submission for a new entry on Canadian Idealism has been declined. The explanation is that it sounds more like an essay than an encyclopedia entry. I'm not sure how to fix this. I modeled the entry on the current Wikipedia entry for British Idealism.

Any help would be appreciated,

Well, first of all I must say that British idealism is not a very good article to be emulating. :( Now, the problem with your submission, as I see it, is that most of the prose is really about "G.W. Hegel's absolute idealism". If you would write more about the actual history and so forth of the Canadian Idealistic movement, you might have more luck with your submission. Regards and my respect; I have added online versions of two printed magazines. I know IMDB is not a reference (credits are there online), but the credits on the movie Taken are also on the final screen. Hope you can help. If I have to shorten or arrange something please let me know. Thanks 21:47, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Mroxidizer1 (talk) 21:47, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I am new to wikipegia, trying to learn how to edit articles in my sandbox, and submitted the page User:Williams12357/sandbox in error. (Not clear to me how it happened...)

Thanks for removing it. Williams12357 (talk) 10:08, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An IP (anonymous editor) added it. Feel free to put it back if you do want your submission reviewed. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 19:43, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I get this message twice, i have tried to edit it according to the given guidelines, but still missing something and unable to meet the guidelines. Please help to improve this article according to Wikipedia guidelines. , so it can be accepted by Wikipedia. The reviewer left the following comment about this submission:

"This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability—see the guidelines on the notability of websites and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Farooqkhan12 (talkcontribs) 11:44, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The subject of this submission does not appear to be notable. Your attempts to add it to Wikipedia, seem to be in order to promote it or increase its web presence. Which is not allowed. Pol430 talk to me 21:00, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To whom it may concern, is there any special format or way that I need to place a biography of a person running for State Assembly? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bejnaminsheperd (talkcontribs) 14:55, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The concern seems to be that the subject of the submission just isn't notable enough for a Wikipedia article. We don't normally accept articles about candidates per WP:POLITICIAN. Pol430 talk to me 21:03, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regards. Can you please verified references on this article if is possible? Cirex. There are two printed magazines, that I found the online versions with exact page, and the profile on International Movie Data Base. Mroxidizer1 (talk) 19:43, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but the only one I found that was LeMode Art Magazine.  As far as I can discern, the remainder, are blogs, promotions, or don't mention the artist.  LeMode is a start, but they don't have much.  Keep trying.   :- ) DCS 13:54, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I found two in that draft:
  1. http://www.g4tinkmagazine.org/magazine-archive/volume-3-issue-6/
  2. http://www.lemodeartmagazine.info/ (as mentioned: p19)
and now? mabdul 14:01, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Mabdul, I did not see the page number, sorry.  I fixed that cite for you.   Unfortunately the article did not say much about his music.  I assume the subject is supposed to notable for his musical talent.  If you could find another reference as to his musical abilities, then you will be in good shape.  Thanks to both of you.   :- ) DCS 14:29, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks both!! I will keep looking, I see IMDb is no reliable, nor stores which I understand. I will keep looking for an article more about his music. The article from "Venezuela" (Materia Prima) didn't help? is in Spanish but there talks about his music. Thanks in advance Mroxidizer1 (talk) 23:12, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just have another reliable source from an online magazin, of a group of "modeling girls" that made an aticle about the musical side of Cirex, "Freak Girl Agency" is included on the references list at the end. Hope it helps Mroxidizer1 (talk) 18:35, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there -- I submitted the entry above (the first time I have submitted something) and it was rejected as I was asked to cite with footnotes. I have already put several references in, but I am unclear from the link the reviewer provided how these are different from the footnotes requested? Perhaps I just did not do the formatting / coding correctly. Thank you for any advice you can give. Best wishes, Liz Gennings Liz Gennings (talk) 21:01, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your footnotes seem to work. However, your next problem will be to prove Reid is notable enough for Wikipedia. You will need to show evidence that there has been in-depth, independent, reliable coverage about Reid (not by him, not by his publishers etc.), alternatively if his book has received 'significant critical attention' he may meet the notability criteria as an author. Hi, I need assistance on the References Section: what would be the appropriate way to cite a website per se as a source? And how or to who should I ask to attach a picture of the person subject of the article, to the text? Please advise and thanks in advance for your cooperation.Indirus (talk) 22:35, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The inline citations are fixed now;
What kind of image do you ant to upload? Who is the copyright owner? (who shot it) Is it somewhere online already? mabdul 14:03, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He is the copyright owner and it's not online...Please advise how to upload it and thank you very much for all your assistance...Indirus (talk) 18:30, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That was me.  Dont' begin a line with a space, and there is more complete information on citing at Template:Citation/core :- ) DCS 14:53, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am unsure of how to proceed. At first the feedback I received, noted my references need to be applied, however I did them as I understood they were supposed to be applied. I saved my complete wikipedia document below so you could see what I am trying to accomplish. It includes images that I was trying to include in my wikipedia entry for nested paging, but because I was unable to successfully get them to appear on the page I was creating, I took them out. I would ideally like my wikipedia entry to be as it is below(with pictures of course) I was completing this as an assignment. Thank You tlj1346

In basic terms, nested paging is the process of providing access to a web page, by clicking on a hyperlink from another web page housed on the same web domain. Hyperlink is also defined as: a link from a hypertext file or document to another location or file, typically activated by clicking on a highlighted word or image on the screen. Additionally, every blue underlined word on this page is a hyperlink providing access to a nested page. A linked webpage does not necessarily have to be housed on the same web domain, but a nested page usually is. In other words, a nested page is the child page of a parent web page, whereby a websites main page provides links to child or nested pages. Nested pages are used to provide additional information about anything; person, item, product, or service, that needs further clarification or explanation whether by words or images. Consider the following family tree, and an example of why one would use nested paging: Jane Doe – Mark Doe John Doe James Doe Joseph Doe Mary Doe If you wanted to create a web page about the Doe family, you could first create a main webpage with the names of everyone in the Doe family, the history of the surname Doe, where they live, etc. However, if you want to provide more detail about anyone in the Doe family, create a separate page for each Doe family member. Provide a hyperlink to each family members individual page. The hyperlink connects the nested family member pages to the main family page. The following is a snapshot of the main page: http://www.wikipedia.org/ Additionally, clicking on the word, English takes you to the nested page underneath the Wikipedia.org main page, for those wanting to access Wikipedia in English. See snapshot below or click on the hyperlink above. Creating nested pages for a web site by using a template can look similar to the diagram below, depending on your web design needs. image source: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/radhelp/v6r0m1/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.etools.pagedesigner.doc%2Fto pics%2Fcnest.html Similar Topics: Nested Hierarchy Nested function Nested Page Templates References: 1.
