This page presents a summary of the collaboration between Wikipedia in English and Kër Thiossane. Kër Thiossane contributes to the project WikiAfrica and it's a GLAM. The institution[edit]It is a cultural association to promote the development of digital art in Africa based in Dakar, Senegal, in the ancient Sicap Liberté II neighbourhood. A venue for research, residence, creation and training, Kër Thiossane encourages the integration of multimedia in traditional artistic and creative practices, and seeks to support the mixing of disciplines. Kër Thiossane focuses its activities on research into art and new technologies and what they imply in our societies through residences, training, meetings and workshops. Kër Thiossane develops its exchanges and collaboration with structures in the African continent, but it also develops links with other continents, in particular in a South-South perspective (without intervention from a Western country), and since 2002 it has welcomed artists from all over the world. Kër Thiossane seeks to link the development of artistic digital practices to other domains of society; education and training, creative industries, citizenship, ecology and town development. Afropixel[edit]AfroPixel is a Digital Art Festival organised by the association “Kër Thiossane, Villa pour l'Art et le Multimédia”. The festival was launched first time in May 2008 during the Dakar Biennal.During the festival, the international art network Bricolabs has led a workshop, where artists and IT operators from Senegal and Mali can become acquainted with open-source systems, and the aesthetics of contemporary digital creations. Afropixel 2010 invites artists, researchers, actors of civil society and managers to share views about places and new technologies impacts on African society. With expositions, installations, performances, public meeting and workshops Afropixel wanders about the limits and the opportunity of Tic in Africa, looking at urban transformations, ecology, education, citizenship and democracy. In 2009/2010 Afropixel participates to the projects Mobile A2K and WikiAfrica Art promoted by lettera27 Fondation , both focused on mobile phone opportunity for education, Internet platforms, free licences and social network in Africa. The launch of WikiAfrica Art in Kër Thiossane during Afropixel is part of a broader research on new technologies and the use of low-cost open-source programs for artistic practices in Africa. It invites artists to create an artwork for Wikipedia. In this occasion WikiAfrica Art has invited African artists to realise "An art work for Wikipedia". lettera27 shares the mission and the goals of the association Kër Thiossane and supports AfroPixel.
