The {{reflist}} template is a popular implementation of footnotes in Wikipedia. It serves to encapsulate the <references /> tag that is used by the Cite MediaWiki extension.[1] While either of these may be used for making citations, there is a discrepancy in their appearance. In an attempt to further unify Wikipedia's look and feel across all of its pages, a standard should be set. As {{reflist}} has become the more popular choice, it will be made the standard implementation. Editors are highly encouraged to use {{reflist}}, but can still choose between the two choices at their discretion. Be warned, however, that if you use <references />, other editors may change it to {{reflist}}. If this is an issue, resolve it by reaching consensus on the article's talk page.
