This was a short month. I was on annual leave from 8 December to 20 December. I ran a Wikipedia Women in Red workshop on 21 December 2017 and the university closed for the winter break from 22 December 2017 to 8 January 2018.

Projects delivered

Strategic Goal 1

Increase the quality and quantity of coverage of subjects that are currently underrepresented on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, with a particular focus on cultural content.

• Monthly Wiki meetup for Women in Red held on 21 December 2017 - 3 new articles created.

• Navbox created for Annie's Arboretum - to help signpost the suffragettes who planted trees at Eagle House in Bath, Somerset - and added to each of their Wikipedia pages. Caroline Kuhn interested in running a Women in Red editathon in Bath to help create more of these articles.

Projects/events in development

• Further monthly Women in Red meetups scheduled for 26 January, 22 February and 30 March 2018.
• Approached by Sara Mortsell at Wikimedia Sweden about collaborating on a Wikipedia in Education knwledge sharing exercise between Wikimedia Sweden, Stockholm University, the University of Edinburgh and Tel Aviv University.
• Approached by Professor Corrado Petrucco ath the University of Padua to see if colleagues at the University of Edinburgh would be interested in collaborating on research into Wikimedia in Education.
• Confirmed with Felix Stein at Social Anthropology about a Wikipedia editing assignment for the Global Health MSc course - postponed until October 2018 due to Felix working in Haiti at the moment.
• Discussed with Sophie Nicholls at Teeside University about doing a 'Regeneration' editathon and Train the Trainer events down there - dates in Spring 2018 now finalised as April 28th 2017.
• Continuing to support colleagues, Andrew Kirk and Christina Hussell, at the University of Edinburgh's Digital Skills team to run regular Wikipedia training workshops. Scheduled extra monthly workshops in January to March which they will now lead.
• Showcase 'Wiki Loves Libraries' event for SDLC and SLIC representatives still mooted - liaising with Gavin Willshaw, Digital Curator on date and format.
• Planned further Wikisource workshop in January to March 2018 (date to be decided) with Gavin Willshaw, Digital Curator, in addition to continuing the import of thesis data to Wikidata from the Edinburgh Research Archive.
• Three events for the university's Festival of Creative Learning (19-23 February 2018) are going ahead: a Wikidata hackathon, a Histropedia workshop and a Women in Medicine editathon.
• Liaising with Susan Ross, Gaelic Wikipedian at the National Library of Scotland, on a submission for the Gaelic Studies Conference at the University of Edinburgh next summer.
• Proposals accepted for three presentations at the Open Educational Resources Conference (OER18): Wikidata in the Classroom (lightning talk), Stories of Student Empowerment - Wikipedia in the Classroom (15 minute presentation) and an EdTech editathon workshop.
• 4th iteration of the Wikipedia Translation assignment to go ahead on the Translation Studies MSc in January to April 2018.

George Square and Appleton Tower - Edinburgh

• The MOOC snippet clip (right) was added to Wikimedia Commons and inserted in the Arthur's Seat Wikipedia page. 321 views from 12/12/2017 to 11/01/2018 for this month. A total of 623 views since it was added on 27 November until 11 January 2018.
• The Wikimedian in Residence channel on Media Hopper now has 224 videos. 44 views this month with 38 plays.
• The Wikimedian in Residence channel on Youtube now has received over 23,994 views this month of its 61 videos with 116 subscribers (1,733 more views approx. since last month and 9 more subscribers and 17 'likes' since last month). These videos have been viewed in over 159 different countries around the world.
• Data Science for Design MSc students created two videos on the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft which are both now available on Creative Commons licences on Media Hopper. Video 1. Video 2.
