Wikipedia:Triple Crown/Retired awards
Several of the Triple Crown awards have been retired. Details about the history of the awards and the winners are kept here.
The Steeplechase
[edit]A steeplechase was originally a type of horse race where competitors hurried to the nearest church steeple, and developed into a formal race across an obstacle course of various challenges. Modern steeplechases can be either foot races or equestrian events.
The Wikipedia steeplechase applied the idea of varied accomplishments to editing. It wasn't exactly a triple crown; it was a challenge to contribute different types of featured content. To qualify for a steeplechase award, an editor must have been a major contributor to at least 5 of Wikipedia's 6 different types of featured content; the Golden steeplechase award was given to users who had featured content in all 6 categories.
This award is now retired due to featured sound and featured portal being marked as "{{historical}}" in November 2011 and March 2017 respectively, meaning new content is not eligible for featured promotion in those categories.
No good articles or Did you know? entries were required for the steeplechase. Mitchazenia was the first Wikipedian to complete the steeplechase requirements. Six uses were awarded the regular steeplechase award while it was active; two of these uses went on to be awarded the Golden steeplechase, and an additional two users skipped the regular steeplechase and were awarded the Golden steeplechase only.
Golden steeplechase
[edit]This was awarded for editors who were major contributors to featured content in all six different areas.
The Great Triple Crown Race of 2008
[edit]This was a special edition award that honored editing work done in the first days of 2008. In order to earn this award, editors needed to complete all the requirements for a triple crown between 1 January and 14 February. Two Wikipedians earned this unique triple crown honor.
