In 2003/04, "en.wikipedia.org/stats" and later "wikimedia.org/stats/en.wikipedia.org" posted monthly data on viewing statistics. The September 2003 report (preserved at archive.org [1] includes the Top 30 most requested URLs. (The list was increased to 100 in October 2003.) After removing non-article pages (but keeping the Main_Page as was done when 2004 charts were created), the below list was created (in November 2016):

It appears this article was linked to from an external source responsible for at least 75% of these views.
