Politics continues to be a major theme, with Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss becoming the frontrunners in the 2022 Conservative Party leadership election. Other political subjects include our #1, the new President of India. TV shows also continue to feature in the report, with at least eleven appearances of our #16 in the 2022 reports by now, and the return of a show about an Albuquerque criminal lawyer.

Rank Article Class Views Image Notes/about
Droupadi Murmu 1,763,304 The Governor of Jharkhand will make history as the first person from a Scheduled Tribe to be elected as India's president (although not the first woman; that record belongs to Pratibha Patil.) She will also be the youngest president ever, because she's only 64; being president is generally seen as a final political job, and most Indian politicians are either over 50 or somebody's son.
Rishi Sunak 1,050,812 The Tories have narrowed the field in the 2022 Conservative Party leadership election down to two, with RISH! Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer under the outgoing PM Boris Johnson, currently in first place in the MP's ballot, having been a frontrunner throughout the entire leadership content thus far. Are the Tories ready for Rishi or not? Find out in September!
Nope (film) 1,009,923 Splitting some British Prime Minister prospects is the return of Jordan Peele, who 3 years after Us shows that after building a career in comedy he only wants to do scary movies, reuniting with Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya to tell the story of two ranch owners who stumble upon an UFO.
Liz Truss 915,799 The Tories have narrowed the field in the 2022 Conservative Party leadership election down to two, with Liz Truss, the number one fan of both pork markets and Margaret Thatcher, in second place in the final MPs' ballot, after overtaking Penny Mordaunt. Do the Tories want Liz for Leader or not? Find out in September!
Thor: Love and Thunder 914,535 #3 took the top of the American box office from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest, the return of the God of Thunder which already passed $600 million worldwide.
Jennifer Lopez 909,014 Twenty years ago, J. Lo and Ben Affleck became a couple while making a terrible movie, and the media overexposed "Bennifer" until they broke up. She afterwards married Marc Anthony and had twins with him, but fate eventually had her and Ben getting together again, and this week they married.
Deaths in 2022 906,833 Oh no

It gone
Bye-Bye (Bye!)

and I die!
The Gray Man (2022 film) 846,311 Netflix might be losing subscribers, but is still flush with cash to spend in big action movies. This week came out a book adaptation reuniting the star, directors and writers of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (and its bigger sequels), albeit Chris Evans is a bad guy as it instead follows Ryan Gosling as a convicted murderer who is taken out of prison to work as an assassin for the CIA.
Ivana Trump 806,050 The socialite mother of Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump (and yes, the first wife of The Donald) died after falling down the stairs in her home.
Ben Affleck 708,168 An actor who replaced #6 with a namesake, Jennifer Garner (the Elektra of his Daredevil, mother of his three kids), and while a return as Batman may not be in the cards, one with J. Lo turned out to be.
Andrew Tate 672,581 A controversial YouTuber with a side career in kickboxing, whose article is also being the target of edit wars.
2022 World Athletics Championships 637,463 After one year of delay due to the goddamned pandemic and the Olympics taking the originally scheduled slot, the premier track and field event was held in Eugene, Oregon.
Oskar Sala 630,669 This German composer and synthesizer pioneer got a Google Doodle on what would have been his 118th birthday.
Stray (video game) 625,911 Cat videos have always been the rage. And now there's a cat video game, where players try to conduct a stray kitten out of an abandoned walled city.
2022 Indian presidential election 600,664 As expected, Droupadi Murmu (#1), the candidate of the ruling National Democratic Alliance, was comfortably elected to the largely ceremonial office of President. She defeated opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha, a former Minister of Finance.
Stranger Things 556,055 The month closes, people are recovering from the end of a season in the horror-adventure show that dealt with a destructive disfigured warlock whose name starts with a V. No, not that one.
2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine 533,423 Russia's blockade of Ukrainian grain exports looks like it could have ended due to an international deal (although it should be noted Russia attacked Ukraine's main port shortly after the deal). There was also talk of a Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kherson Oblast this week. It hasn't really started.
Elvis Presley 460,788 Baz Luhrmann's Elvis just passed $200 million worldwide to match its critical acclaim. And even if this article is falling off, expect it to be on the list three weeks from now, as August 16 marks 45 years without the King.
Cameron Smith (golfer) 452,955 This Australian golfer won his first major at the 2022 Open Championship.
Top Gun: Maverick 429,768 Both the revenue and continuing appearances in this report for this film (when last week it had the bottom spot!) have really taken our breath away...
The Boys (TV series) 409,670 Two weeks after the closure of a hardcore season (the very first episode had an Ant-Man analogue accidentally killing a man during an attempt at miniaturized masturbation), the jerk superheroes are still on the list.
Resident Evil (TV series) 395,348 Last year Capcom's survival horror games had a new attempt in theaters with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and now Netflix gave it a shot in series form as well.
Better Call Saul (season 6) 394,193 "Better call Saul!" The hit Breaking Bad prequel makes its first appearance on this report since its first season ended back in 2015, in preparation for both the sixth season and the series ending this August. Things have changed a lot since then, with Saul Goodman (also known as Jimmy McGill) losing both his wife and former boss within the span of three episodes. Viewers are also likely interested to see the upcoming return of that high school chemistry teacher and his former student.
Stranger Things (season 4) 377,333 One last entry for #16's penultimate season and its star Eleven (who in the season sees her powers falter and is forced to adopt the boyish haircut again for therapy) has gone from Running Up That Hill to falling all the way down this report.
Millie Bobby Brown 374,362
