Rank Article Class Views Image Notes 1 Steven Avery 2,074,561 Up from #4. Avery is an American prisoner who is the subject of the popular new Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer which was released on December 18. (Episode 1 is available free on YouTube.) Avery served 18 years in prison, from 1985–2003, after being framed by the local police for a sexual assault he plainly did not commit. During his subsequent civil lawsuit for compensation, during a period of explosive depositions, he was charged with the murder of a local photographer, and later convicted. I am in the midst of watching this show and highly recommend it, as does a large swath of the internet. Interestingly, his Wikipedia article was created on November 11, 2005, a few days after his arrest for the murder charge. 2 Star Wars: The Force Awakens 1,981,073 After three weeks as #1, Episode VII bows down a bit. Still, it remains atop the box office, even competing with the wide release of our #4. 3 Making a Murderer 1,877,617 See #1. Then go watch it. 4 The Revenant (2015 film) 1,123,217 This "cold western" where Leonardo DiCaprio (pictured) suffers profusely, from bear maulings to being dragged in frozen wastelands, had its wide release and subsequently grossed a respectable $39,6 million across the weekend, though it wasn't enough to remove our #2 from the top of the box office. Given The Revenant is also a major awards contender, expect it to remain on the list until the Oscars in March. 5 Star Wars 947,088 See #1 6 María Santos Gorrostieta Salazar 778,650 Reddit learned about this Mexican physician turned politician whose opposition against organized crime led to several assassination attempts before she got murdered in 2012. 7 Jenna Dewan 750,932 The season opener of Lip Sync Battle saw Channing Tatum against his wife Jenna Dewan, who clearly won in garnering viewer attention. 8 List of highest-grossing films 738,206 With #2 rising on this all-time list (without considering inflation), and lots of news coverage about it, its no surprise that this was a popular article. 9 Bikini 697,959 This week was so slow that r/todayilearned is dominating, with entries owing to topics about bikini lengths, tomato-and-strawberry pincushions and Steve Jobs being a cheapskate regarding child support. 10 Pincushion 750,932 11 Lisa Brennan-Jobs 664,466 12 The Hateful Eight 616,558 The latest Quentin Tarantino (picture) thriller was released on Christmas Day. 13 Deaths in 2016 515,338 The annual list of deaths is a consistent part of the Top 25 Report, even as the year has just begun. 14 Dilwale (2015 film) 512,049 This Indian film, including Kajol (pictured) among its starring actors, debuted on December 18. Dilwale grossed around ₹1.5 billion (US$22 million) worldwide in its opening weekend, the third highest of the year for an Indian film. 14 The Shannara Chronicles 511,983 From the creators of Smallville and Into the Badlands comes this fantasy series adapting a book trilogy by Terry Brooks, which debuted on MTV on January 5. 15 Daisy Ridley 484,312 The English actress stars in #1 in the role of Rey. 16 Hailey Baldwin 457,252 Along with modeling for Ralph Lauren and Vogue, this model (daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin) has been on the news for her split with Justin Bieber. 17 Aokigahara 447,171 The so-called "suicide forest" located at the base of Mount Fuji, probably propelled here by those who watched the recently released horror film The Forest (which opened at #4 in the box office, behind #4, #2 and Daddy's Home). 18 Corrupted Blood incident 444,321 Look, Reddit again. This time, about an epidemic that happened on World of Warcraft but whose control turned out to be a good research material for real scientists. 19 Channing Tatum 442,812 The former stripper/dancer turned Hollywood star appeared with his missus (#7) on TV. 20 Sian Blake 441,925 Reported as missing since mid-December, this English actress, best known for her role on EastEnders, turned out to have a really tragic ending: the police dug Blake's body, along with her two children, from her own garden, apparently having been killed by her husband (who has since escaped to Ghana). 21 Hugh Glass 429,382 The 18th century American outlaw whose story of survival and revenge became the basis for The Revenant (see #4) and the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio. 22 Sherlock (TV series) 415,941 The contemporary-set revamp of the Sherlock Holmes mythos had a special episode aired on New Year's Day. 23 Donald Trump 415,237 The Donald is attempting to become president, and released his first ad of the year. 24 List of Steven Universe episodes 411,732 It's not often that kids' cartoons get on this list; My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic hasn't managed it in 5 years. But then, Steven Universe isn't exactly a kids' cartoon. In fact I'm not entirely sure I can explain what it is, but if you can imagine a magical girl anime remade in English with a gender-swapped lead, you can get some idea. The final episodes of the season were released daily last week. 25 UFC 195 409,222 The latest mixed martial arts event was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.
