There have been thirteen Nobel laureates associated with the City University of New York (CUNY). The Nobel Prizes are awarded annually by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Karolinska Institute, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee to individuals who make outstanding contributions in the fields of chemistry, physics, literature, peace, and physiology or medicine. They were established by the 1895 will of Alfred Nobel, which dictates that the awards should be administered by the Nobel Foundation. CUNY considers any laureate who attended one of its senior colleges as an affiliated laureate. Arthur Kornberg, who graduated from the City College of New York (pictured), a senior college of CUNY, in 1937, was the first CUNY laureate, winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1959. Herbert A. Hauptman and Jerome Karle, both of whom graduated from the City College in 1937 with Kornberg, jointly won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1985, the only CUNY laureates to do so. Sanjay Dutt's acting career has consisted of his work in Bollywood films. He made his acting debut in 1981, opposite Tina Ambani, in his father Sunil Dutt's romantic action film Rocky (1981). Rocky was ranked as the tenth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1981. After appearing in a series of box-office flops, Sanjay Dutt starred in Mahesh Bhatt's crime thriller film Naam (1986). He received critical acclaim for his performance, and it became a turning point in his career. In 1991, Dutt appeared in Lawrence D'Souza's Indian romantic drama film Saajan (1991), starring alongside Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. For his performance, he was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He was nominated again for the same award for his performance in Khalnayak (1993). Dutt won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for portraying a young man who later becomes a gangster in Vaastav: The Reality (1999). He also received critical acclaim for his performance. Dutt next appeared in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's crime thriller film Mission Kashmir (2000), for which performance he was again nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. (Full list...)

Slovenia first participated as an independent nation at the Olympic Games at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, and the country has sent athletes to compete at every Games since then. Slovenian athletes first competed at the Olympics in Stockholm, at the 1912 Summer Olympics, as part of the Austrian team. There, Rudolf Cvetko became the first Slovene to win an Olympic medal, a silver in the men's team sabre. Then, until Slovenia's independence, they competed as part of Yugoslavia. Athletes representing Slovenia have won a total of 23 medals at the Summer Olympic Games and another 17 at the Winter Olympic Games. Slovenia's most successful Summer Olympics have been the 2000 Summer Olympics where they won two gold medals and the 2008 Summer Olympics where they won five medals overall, including one gold. The most successful winter games were the 2014 Winter Olympics, where Slovenian athletes won a record eight medals, including two gold. Alpine skier Tina Maze (pictured) and rower Iztok Čop are the most decorated post-independence Slovenian Olympians, with four medals each. (Full list...)

The 1983 Atlantic hurricane season was the least active Atlantic hurricane season in 53 years, during which four tropical cyclones formed. The season officially began on June 1, 1983, and ended on November 30, dates which conventionally limit the period of each year when tropical cyclones tend to form in the Atlantic. The first named storm, Hurricane Alicia (pictured), formed on August 15. The last storm of the season, Tropical Storm Dean, dissipated on September 30. This season produced seven tropical depressions, of which four became named storms; three attained hurricane status, of which one became a major hurricane. Hurricane Alicia had its name retired due to the fatalities and severe damage caused in Texas. The storm killed 21 people and caused $2.6 billion (1983 USD) in damages, making it the costliest storm, at the time, in Texas history. Hurricane Barry was a weak Category 1 hurricane that traveled almost due west across the Gulf of Mexico for most of its track before making landfall in extreme northern Mexico. (Full list...)

Polish singer and songwriter Margaret has won various accolades during her career, including five Eska Music Awards out of eleven nominations, a Kids' Choice Award for Favourite Polish Star, and three MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Polish Act out of five nominations. Margaret's third MTV Europe Music Award win in 2018 made her the first and only Polish artist to win the award more than twice. In 2013, Margaret received an award for coming second against nine other competitors at the 2013 Baltic Song Contest in Sweden, where she sang her debut single "Thank You Very Much", and "I Get Along", a cut from her first EP. "Thank You Very Much" won an award as the third-best selling digital single of 2013 in Poland by a Polish artist, which she was presented at the 2014 Sopot TOPtrendy Festival. Margaret has also received two awards at the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole: a SuperJedynka award in 2014 and the TVP1 Special Award in 2017. The American television police procedural fantasy drama Awake consists of 13 episodes. The series, created by writer and executive producer Kyle Killen, centers on Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs), a detective living in two separate realities after a car accident. The series was conceived by Killen after creating and developing Lone Star for the Fox network. NBC encouraged Killen to conceive a concept for a future television series. Although inspired by the processes of dreaming, the script was cited as potentially being too complex for mainstream American television. The first episode of Awake was released on Hulu on February 16, 2012, officially premiering in the United States on NBC on March 1. On May 11, NBC canceled the series and aired the final episode on May 24, 2012. Awake averaged 4.8 million viewers per episode and ranked 125th in viewership for the 2011–12 television season. There are 118 Grade II* listed buildings in Taunton Deane, a local government district with borough status in the English county of Somerset. In the United Kingdom, the term listed building refers to a building or other structure officially designated as being of special architectural, historical or cultural significance; Grade II* structures are those considered to be "particularly significant buildings of more than local interest". The oldest in Taunton Deane is St George's Church, Fons George (pictured), which has Saxon origins. There are also Norman and medieval churches and churchyard crosses. More recent buildings include country houses and barns along with municipal buildings and an almshouse. The list includes urban properties such as those in Hammet Street and The Crescent in Taunton. Industrial sites are represented by Tonedale Mills in Wellington, the largest woollen mill in South West England. (Full list...)

The 2016 AFL Rising Star was presented to the player adjudged the best young player in the Australian Football League (AFL) for that year. An eligible player was nominated for the award each round during the AFL's regular season, and a panel of experts voted for the winner at the end of the season. The winner was Sydney player Callum Mills (pictured), who polled 49 votes. Mills was the third Sydney recipient to win the award, and the first New South Wales – born winner. The club that garnered the most individual nominations this season was Melbourne with four players nominated for the award, a record for the club. Essendon player Orazio Fantasia, who received a nomination in round 17, was previously nominated for the award in the 2015 season – becoming the tenth player ever to be nominated twice for a Rising Star award. The British pop group Steps have recorded songs for five studio albums (including a Christmas album), two greatest-hits albums and a tribute album. The band formed in 1997 after responding to an advert in the magazine The Stage, which asked for people to audition for a place in a pop band. Out of the thousands who applied, Lee Latchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer, Claire Richards, and Ian "H" Watkins were successful in securing a place. The techno-pop song "5,6,7,8" was released as their debut single in 1997 and was followed by their debut album Step One the following year. The group achieved thirteen consecutive top-five singles in the United Kingdom, including "Better Best Forgotten", "Say You'll Be Mine", "Deeper Shade of Blue", "It's the Way You Make Me Feel", and one of their two number-ones, "Stomp". The group have covered a variety of well-known songs throughout their career, including their first number-one song, "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees. (Full list...)
