BFI (British Film Institute) recently changed their film database. The templates no longer work and can not be made to work because there is no way to automatically map between old and new databases, and often such 1:1 connections don't even exist. The templates have been removed from all articles and are no longer in use, there were about 1,250 instances emitting link rot. Now fixed: example. The tracking categories were created for the templates, and only populated by the templates, they are no longer required. Other non-{{BFI}} links to bfi.org.uk - such as in a {{cite web}} or regular square links - have already been fixed, there were over 16,000 instances. -- GreenC 20:57, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This module is marked as deprecated but is still used in MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-DS and MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-galobtter-test (and a few other archived pages). It's not stated what has replaced it, but Module:Ds/aware's talk page redirects to Template talk:Ds/aware, which main page redirects to Template:Contentious topics/aware, which uses Module:Contentious topics/aware. So once the usages of this module are replaced and the module deleted, the redirects need to be sorted out so that Template talk:Contentious topics/aware is the target talk page. There is no reason to deprecate navigation templates like this. If this was replaced just delete it. Subst to the single talk page where it is still used. Gonnym (talk) 11:14, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A task force template. Should be replaced with {{WikiProject Event Venues|sports=yes}}. Gonnym (talk) 08:17, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Only used in Ubuntu version history Aaron Liu (talk) 01:41, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak oppose the deletion proposal. It remains useful for viewers to understand the history of releases and how long they are/were supported. Just include this in the ubuntu article itself, if necessary. Furthermore, this is not the only template although; see Category:Computing graphical timeline templates.197.26.160.169 (talk) 16:41, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    1. I'm not proposing to never use its current content again, I'm proposing to move the current content into the article instead of through template. Per WP:TG Templates that… become orphaned or used on only one page… may be nominated for deletion.
    2. Most of the templates in that category are used in more than one page.
    3. Where would you put the template? It doesn’t seem particularly important to the parent article. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:23, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I know there is a particular user who is actively in charge of updating the template. Do you have any opinions based on the proposed changes, mister ahunt?197.14.103.60 (talk) 08:12, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Jesus… it appears that Ahunt has permanently retired last month after frustration with battleground behavior. We are unlikely to get an answer… Aaron Liu (talk) 18:23, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another casualty of AfD. Needs reform to be more civil we can't keep loosing good long-term vets like this. (sorry OT) -- GreenC 18:36, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is not fair. That user had been always updating linux-related articles and templates, like this one. Tell him to come back now and focus on this debate. I understand that he had participated in multiple debates related to aircraft and sailboats. This user just never participated in any software-related debates. If the user insists to not coming back, tell bilCat, its best pal on WP, to join instead.102.156.111.173 (talk) 11:39, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Editors do not have jobs, you can't just tell them to come back. If you check his user page you'll find that BilCat has also retired five days ago. I do not know why you insist on keeping this template that much, could you state your reasons yourself? Aaron Liu (talk) 12:07, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What the AcTuAl hEcK in the world is going on??!! How could both notable, WP:GOODFAITH users be retiring before or when you've started this proposal? This is getting serious. Please invite (or ping) other users who are specialized in editing or formatting WP:COMPUTER-related articles/pages.102.156.111.173 (talk) 12:43, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another possible reason Y such template is separated is to reduce the size of the page itself. The template's current size is 13 805 bytes before nomination. Deleting this template and merging the contents onto ubuntu version history would, of course, increase the article from its current size, which is 148 524 bytes.102.156.111.173 (talk) 12:43, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
TG says Templates should not normally be used to store article text, as this makes it more difficult to edit the content. I don’t see why we need to separate the page size, almost nobody edits the entire article at once and the servers can definitely handle this. As for “how” this is happening… people have been leaving Wikipedia since 2005. Why are you vehemently trying to find someone to defend keeping this template?
