[edit]- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template below. Please do not modify it. The result of the discussion was delete, too large of a scope for a navigation template (if it were expanded to complete coverage), and no other nationality-based musical artist templates. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:59, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Template lists every music group and artist based in South Korea. I'm not aware of any precedent of templates listing all groups and artists in one template based on nationality. Too broad to be of any useful navigation. — ξxplicit 23:45, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Delete -- this is the 3rd or 4th navbox on most of these articles. It doesn't add anything really useful (other than nationalistic puffery) and just adds navbox clutter. -- Selket Talk 15:50, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- Keep - Let's not be rude by insulting the beautiful link between a national culture and its music that is produced by it. The artists in SK are not too many and so you cannot say that the topic is broad. And also, this template will (1) help in finding Korean-language singers, (2) help discover singers from the nation of South Korea, (3) help us navigate in finding other people from the same music genre. All of which is a need in a vast modern encyclopedia like this one. Farjad0322(talk|sign|contribs) 21:44, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- delete, this is what categories are for. Frietjes (talk) 15:34, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- Comment: Your argument is false in many ways. That way half the the templates are useless. Besides not every person who uses wikipedia can see or knows about categories, but they can see templates. Besides categories are a mess and don't mention how an artist is solo or group, male or female or mixed. Farjad0322(talk|sign|contribs) 16:31, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- really? categories "don't mention how an artist is solo or group, male or female or mixed"? last time I checked there were subcategories of Category:South Korean musicians. if you want to create more subcategories, go right ahead. I'm pretty sure everyone can see categories. they are right there at the bottom of the article just below the navigation boxes. Frietjes (talk) 00:10, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- by the way, why aren't Yi Saenggang and Hwang Byungki in this template? seems like it's not really about all "South Korean music artists". if you were to include everyone (e.g., Tae Jin Ah), the template would explode in size. which is, again, why we have categories (e.g., over 150 just in Category:South Korean male singers). This template was nominated by DreamGuy (talk · contribs) on June 30, but it was never listed (or possibly removed out of process, but I saw no evidence of such). I'm not too concerned with whether it's deleted, though it seems rather random to me. szyslak (t) 10:46, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Keep. It's a handy reference template of the different tropes of characters that exist for writers to use. To delete this template would be doing a disservice to the writers who use it for character reference. Creativity-II (talk) 11:12, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Keep Reasonable navbox for the topic, although "Jewish Mother stereotype" might raise some issues. -- Selket Talk 15:49, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Argh. No. Completely arbitrary list of tropes which would be better developed on That Other Wiki. I suspect that if anyone had the gumption to nominate most of those articles for deletion (which is the correct thing to do) then this wouldn't navigate very many articles at all. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 09:05, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- Many of the microstubs (eg Archimime) have 1 or 2 references. It might be ideal to merge the content in those, into List of stock characters. That will improve the list article, and focus the template, and rescue the RS content from the microstubs without having to worry about AFD/prod.
So, Cleanup. Merge micro-content.(struck July 23) -- Quiddity (talk) 02:03, 20 July 2012 (UTC)- Update: It didn't go as far as I hoped. I merged these articles into the main list - Archimime, Farmer's daughter (character), Grande dame, Romantic interest, Tarzanesque - but the rest are too extensive to fit well. At this point, the only real options to head towards are either, (1) strict inclusion criteria (suggestions?), (2) just add all the articles in Category:Stock characters. (or (3) delete, but that's going to be difficult to find consensus for in this round). [We really need a better evolution of seealso/category/navtemplate for these situations :/ ] -- Quiddity (talk) 07:33, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

- Comment we have an article on it Stock character, so seems like there can be a template for it. -- 76.65.131.160 (talk) 11:38, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
- Keep, but Cleanup. In general, "All articles within the template relate to a single, coherent subject" and "The subject of the template is mentioned in every article." It's just that the Miscellaneous section needs to be sorted into a few more groups and possibly have a few articles removed. Pokedigi (talk) 01:15, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

- No - I'm quite happy for there to be a list of all the country templates; but as far as I can tell, Trinidad and Tobago is the only country which has its own "personal" list (of 1). - Comment When I nominated this template for deletion, it looked like this:
All you have to do to become a member of this project is cut and paste:
{{inclusionist}}
...to your user page.
- and it wasn't clear to me what "this project" was. Since then, it's been updated to look like this:
All you have to do to become a member of this project is cut and paste:
{{inclusionist}}
...to your user page.
WikiProject Inclusion

- Delete I created this template ages ago, and unlike the previous two arguments, I'd like to add that it is actually in use on a number of pages (ex. Hillsborough Interchange; Meadowhall Interchange; Sheffield station) and was created in the same vein as train templates which show the preceding and following stations. Yet, I must admit that since only a small percentage of supertram stops have their own page (usually bundled with a railway interchange), the template is rather worthless.
