Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines/Sources
Main | Discussion | Assessment | Requests | Members | Articles (Featured · New · Popular) | Sources | Portal |
This resource collates and classifies sources often used in articles linked to the Philippines and Filipinos similar to what other WikiProjects have done and aims to be as comprehensive as possible similar to WikiProjects Christian music, Venezuela and Video games.
The scope of this resource was initially concentrated on publications and various media outlets based in the Philippines and/or have a focus on the country and its people; government entities, NGOs, advocacy groups, think tanks and other websites can be included in the collation and classification of sources - one example can be found in the reliable and unreliable sources list provided by WikiProject Venezuela. A general list of reliable sources covering various international media outlets can be found on this page.
Guide
[edit]- Media - "Television" refers to terrestrial, cable and satellite television
- Date - Date/s of operation for a media outlet, sometimes separated to differentiate between various media types
- Paywalled - Uses paywalls or other measures (i.e. geoblocking) to manage access
- Classification - Sources classified based on reliability (initially from the perennial sources list, may evolve based on consensus from the local community
- Ownership - Persons and entities that own and/or operate the organization or media outlet
- Affiliation - Associations or networks that the organization or media outlet is part of
- Funding - How an organization or media outlet is funded
- Uses - Links to articles and other pages that cites content from an organization or media outlet (if available)
General notes
[edit]- Non-inclusion on this list does not imply the reliability or unreliability of an media outlet; relevant discussions can be held at the talk page
- Advertising revenue may also include blocktime arrangements and proceeds from publication of notices and announcements from juridical and other governmental entities
- Allocations refer to funding provided by owners (such as but not limited to religious broadcasters and (co-)founders)
- Be cautious of sponsored content and/or press releases whether disclosed or undisclosed (see also Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources#Paid reporting in Indian news organizations)
- Opinion pieces should be cited accordingly and be cautious when citing opinions (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Statements of opinion)
- Start and end dates are determined based on information provided by relevant persons and entities, news reports and WHOIS queries
- Tabloids may be used with caution (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources#Tabloids)
- Talk show content should be treated as opinion pieces (mostly represent the viewpoints of the host and its guests, not necessarily the platforms utilized)
- Though media outlets that use the English language are preferred, there are no restrictions over the use of media outlets utilizing non-English languages (see Wikipedia:Verifiability#Non-English sources)
- While most if not all sources listed here are online, offline sources are also allowed as long as their bibliographic information is clearly provided to allow others to access them. Assume good faith when editors use offline sources. (See WP:OFFLINE)
- Consensus can change over time and sometimes be overridden
