The first online meeting of 2022 of the members of Wikimedia SWASTHA, was held on the 17th of October. This online meeting came after a very long lull of more than two years. The primary agenda of the meeting was to kickstart the initiative with renewed energy. A proposal for an in-person meetup, in the immediate future, was agreed upon by all who were present.
Kickstarting Wikipedia Swastha after a lull of more than two years
Plan an in-person meetup within the next two months with active wikipedians who participated in the Wikipedia Swastha Mumbai meetup, 2019 and invite interested wikipedians to join this meetup
The online meetup was planned about five days prior. It was hosted by Mouryan on Zoom. The call began at 7.30 pm (IST). It was attended by eight people joining in from various places. This online meetup was particularly important because it was the first to be held for the project, in two years. More active wikipedians from more language wikipedias are expected to attend subsequent meetups.
Pavanaja briefed on one of his ongoing projects in Knwiki (Kannada Wikipedia) in Udupi, Karnataka where, he said, an increased cognitive capability has been observed in pupil who have been editing Wikipedia.
AbhiSuryawanshi suggested a Wikipedian in residence sort of a workshop to which Mouryan added that involving medical students may help in creation of credible articles in Indic languages. Mouryan mentioned the example of Student Wikimedians at Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada who have proofread many pages in Telugu Wikisource. (see this).
Amit, who had been part of the 2019 Swastha Meetup in Mumbai as part of a technical team, suggested creating a inter-lingual glossary tool that will collate medical terminologies in various Indic languages, from dictionaries that are available online, with an open source license and dictionaries available in government and privately-owned libraries. This may serve as an important tool not just for the members of Swastha but for anyone working on health-related topics in Indic languages.
Lastly, everyone reached a consensus to host an in-person event, as soon as possible, to restart the initiative with renewed zeal.
