[edit]flamsteed designations in the southern constellations
[edit]Flamsteed designations are only implied to the stars in the constellations from around -35 deg and up and there are no Flamsteed stars south of that, except for 47 Tucanae and 41 Arae. John Flamsteed designated stars with number before constellation genitive from Great Britain and only for stars seen from there because he doesn't want to travel to the southern hemisphere. The question is, do you think a future astronomer would give stars in the rest of southern constellations Flamsteed numbers? For comparison, Bayer designations are seen in every constellation throughout the sky and not all Bayer designations are given by Bayer himself. PlanetStar 05:47, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- If Flamsteed designations provide something that other designation lack, then maybe so. If not, then there's wouldn't be much point in it. SinisterLefty (talk) 05:53, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
