Footballer of the century according to Ballon d'Or winners

[edit]

Hi. Is anyone by any chance aware of the votes cast by Johan Cruijff, during the vote of all Ballon d'Or winners, to elect the footballer of the century in 1999? Thank you very much. 93.41.96.86 (talk) 11:45, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tears of neither sadness nor happiness

[edit]

I found that I can have tears from certain music that is not sad. Recently this was joyous "Son ar chistr" song and I'd say the tear-jerking came from a heart-warming, empathic feeling that accompanied me while listening rather than happiness. Is this is a known thing in psychology? 212.180.235.46 (talk) 11:47, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tears mentions emotional tears, which can arise from both joy and grief. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots14:25, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(Original research:) I often experience tears of what I can best describe as awe. This afternoon I was listening to the soundtrack of Calendar Girls (musical): some numbers draw tears of sadness from me, but others, tears of awe. ColinFine (talk) 17:46, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A study entitled "A Model of Positive Tears" found four qualitatively different types of "positive tears" (emotional tears triggered by positive emotions): achievement tears, beauty tears, affection tears, and amusement tears. A quote from the study: "Beauty tears occur commonly in situations of overwhelming elegance or beauty, including nature, music or visual arts, and feature feelings of awe or experiencing chills."  --Lambiam 18:17, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I find I am most often moved to tears by presentations of certain historical events, usually but not always regarding the history of my own country. Some musical performances are also tear-inducing, and in some cases the two are combined. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.199.210.77 (talk) 22:45, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is very much a thing. There's research on this, but it's been so long since I looked at it, I wouldn't know where to begin. The article on frisson appears to have some related pointers that might help you find what you are looking for (this source might help). I used to play a lot of music and had a friend that studied music therapy so it was a topic of some interest to me many years ago. It turns out that some kinds of music can elicit an emotional reaction involuntarily based on their notes, melody, pitch, frequency, and many other things. YouTube has numerous live music videos of audiences spontaneously crying while watching a musician perform. I just watched one last week that was linked on reddit. It's even been the subject of fiction. If you haven't seen it, please watch "Resonance (Warehouse 13)". It goes very deep into this topic in the form of science fiction. Lost my old request on the forum

[edit]

Good afternoon all! I once asked when Vichy power was overthrown in the colonies and even received references to the overthrow of Vichy power in the Caribbean and a book about Vichy politics in the tropics. I wanted to put these in the article, but now I can't find these topics. Do you know how to find them? A keyword search didn't yield anything. Vyacheslav84 (talk) 14:08, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This might be of interest: [[1]] DOR (ex-HK) (talk) 16:26, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but that's not it. --Vyacheslav84 (talk) 14:58, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A quick scan of your contributions history shows nothing related to Vichy politics. Have you ever edited under another username? --Viennese Waltz 20:53, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

UEFA criteria on stadium safety

[edit]

Hello. Before today's UEFA classifications, what criteria did UEFA use for everything related to stadium safety? I am referring to the 1950s up to the 1990s. Thank you very much. 93.41.96.86 (talk) 14:11, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unless anybody can find anything to the contrary, I'm not sure that they would have had one. Our article on the 1985 Heysel Stadium disaster notes that the venue "was in a poor state of repair" before it all went horribly wrong. In the present highly regulated and risk-assessed era, it's difficult to imagine a time when authorities just hoped for the best. Alansplodge (talk) 16:10, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's my memory of how it worked too. UEFA did not get involved in these issues, letting local authorities take care of fan safety - sometimes with disastrous results. Xuxl (talk) 14:38, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
