Scoreboard attendant (soccer)

[edit]

As far as soccer is concerned, does the person in charge/scoreboard attendant in case of any goals, substitutions, etc. rely directly on the monitor where they watch the game itself, or do they interact with someone, like a sideline attendant or something? Thanks. 93.41.97.54 (talk) 15:26, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can only speak from having served as a similar role in other sports (primarily basketball and American football, but also some baseball), the scoreboard is generally controlled using a control panel that is connected either by wire, or wirelessly, to the scoreboard. The person running the scoreboard is in the stadium; in American football they are usually located in a room in the press box or other location in the stadium. In basketball, they are located at the "scorers table" directly courtside, where the coordinate with the official scorekeepers and statisticians. The scoreboard operator in those sports watches the action directly, and updates the scoreboard based on a combination of their own observations of the action and direction from the game officials. I suspect soccer/association football to be similar. --Jayron32 15:56, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
