Scoring on penalty kick (Soccer)

[edit]

Hello. I'll come straight to the point: if a goal is scored on a penalty kick (I'm referring to English-speaking countries, but it also applies to international matches such as World Cups, etc.), does the referee write a P (penalty), or PK (penalty kick), in his notebook next to the minute? Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.41.97.74 (talk) 13:22, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Law 10.3 says that penalty kicks must be recorded by the referee, but does not describe how that must be done. Here's the Laws on the FA's website - search for "record". --Dweller (talk) Old fashioned is the new thing! 14:29, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Law 10.3 applies to the goal kicks for determining the outcome of a tied match. Although these kicks are taken from the penalty mark and are called a "penalty shootout", they are technically speaking not "penalty kicks", which are awarded when players commit certain offences. The Laws don't specify any requirements for the form of the match reports that referees must provide. I guess that is up to the authorities under which the competition is held.  --Lambiam 15:59, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
