[edit]How to get from island to mainland or other island by vehicle
[edit]How do you travel from an island to the mainland or another island by car, van or lorry? 86.149.32.193 (talk) 18:05, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Usually either a ferry, causeway or bridge. Did you have a particular island in mind? Alansplodge (talk) 18:32, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- To get from Great Britain to mainland Europe you can also use Eurotunnel Le Shuttle. --Lambiam 19:26, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- I have 1 particular island in mind. The fictional Craggy Island from Father Ted. See the opening intro. 86.149.32.193 (talk) 20:55, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- If water is shallow and there are tides big enough you could just drive accross a dried seabed during the low tide. --CiaPan (talk) 21:32, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Given that the island is fictional, you could just take your flying car. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:41, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Or even by air ferry. British United Air Ferries used to provide such a service. My mother once flew on one of their Aviation Traders Carvairs, and so did Auric Goldfinger. PiusImpavidus (talk) 09:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Craggy Island is widely believed to have been based on one or other of the Aran Islands - see "The real Craggy Island" - however it seems that if so, the programme-makers used some dramatic licence since the ferry company serving the islands does not carry cars, which have to be brought as cargo on a ship from Galway Docks. - No vehicle ferries? 86.149.32.193 (talk) 20:12, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- No; click the link I provided: "There are no car ferries operating to the islands. Ferries to the Aran Islands are for foot passengers only". Alansplodge (talk) 12:36, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

- Or go by hovercraft (after checking for eels). ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 11:26, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
