[edit]I have a question about Iran's population.
[edit]What percent of Iran's population is of Australian or New Zealand immigrants and their descendants? 2001:569:7D98:E00:C45F:BFC9:6DDE:6B13 (talk) 00:49, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Our article Ethnic minorities in Iran and the section Ethnicities in Iran § Recent immigration offer no information on the issue, and neither does CIA's World Factbook. Most countries do not keep track of the origins of the ancestry of their populations. I'd be surprised if Iran is an exception. Any available number will depend on an estimate by a third party, but I see no plausible way for them to arrive at an estimate. Expressed as a percentage, there will be several zeros following the decimal point, though. It will make a difference if you include any resident of Iran who is of Australian or New Zealandic origin or descent, or only those that are also Iranian citizens. --Lambiam 08:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- That's not the correct adjective for New Zealanders. See List of adjectival and demonymic forms for countries and nations. The correct form here would be "who is of ... New Zealand origin".-gadfium 08:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- It is not a demonym, but an existing adjective[1][2][3] meaning "of, from, or pertaining to New Zealand". It is perfectly fine to apply this adjective to the noun "origin". If it is not on the list, this means that the list is incomplete. --Lambiam 22:36, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- At the time of the Iranian Revolution, there were mass demonstrations against Western expats working in Iran, see Strikers in Iran Demand Expulsion Of All Foieigners Holding Oil Jobs(Nov. 1978), so I imagine that few remained to see what would happen. - Check with the embassies or consulates. They might give you a ballpark figure. --Ouro (blah blah) 06:03, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
