[edit]Vague question about hook and hinge
[edit]If we have to hang something(say, a painting) on wall then we can hammer a nail in wall and fix a hook at back of painting and hang it. When I remove that painting, if I want that the hook folds at back and so it is not visible from front. To do that I can fix a hinge, One end on painting and another to hook so that hook rotates. But in case of paintings hinge is not required as painting is always hung and even when removed hook is small so it is fine if it is visible. My question is that where can I get this hinge and hook assembled so only thing I need to do is fix other end of hinge on my object. My father asked me this question. He has small scale business of Metal fabrication. He manufactures
supermarket racks or heavy duty racks etc. I don't know what size or weight he wants that hook to handle and he is not telling it. Of course, he can make hook hinge assembly at own workshop but that won't be cost efficient. That's why I'm asking in which workshops/factories this assembly is made regularly so he can buy in bulk. My guess is that he wants to hang a tray near a hospital bed for medicine and stuff bit that's just a guess so please tell workshop for various sizes of assembly -- Parnaval (talk) 05:47, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- In my experience, pictures hung on a nail in a wall usually use
- (a) a hook mounted on the nail that engages with a suitable edge or fitting on the top section of the frame below its top edge and so not visible from the front, or
- (b) a bracket mounted centrally on the top section of the frame again below its top edge, which engages the nail, or
- (c) a cord or wire strung between two eyes or similar devices fixed into the side sections of the frame, above the middle but again low enough that the wire does not extend above the top of the frame: this has the advantage that two nails in the wall can be used to distribute the load without any need for precise positions for the fittings on the frame.
- The unusual arrangement you describe suggests restrictive conditions I cannot easily visualise, so someone else with more expertise in this area will have to make further suggestions {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.27.217 (talk) 08:54, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- Pardon me, the wordings of original post were confusing. Example of painting was wrong. I have struck it. My question was about in which workshop can I find hinge and hook assembly. -- Parnaval (talk) 10:37, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- It is not clear (at least, to me) what you mean by "this hinge and hook assembly". Is this or this anything like you have in mind? Or more something like this? With a more specific description, one might be able to find it on some website such as aliexpress. --Lambiam 12:52, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- Even I don't exactly know what I need! Still, my search most closely matches with your first link. I don't want to order online as movement is restricted. The answer should be like: It can be found at a factory which makes nets for aquaculture. But as I live on plateau and sea is 400 kilometres away there is no chance I get this kind of factories locally. So is there another factory which makes that kind of hinge-hook assembly. -- Parnaval (talk) 16:53, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
- The company that sells these hinged net hooks is almost certainly not the company that makes them. One may be located in Trondheim, Norway, the other in Xinjiang, PRC, some 5,000 km away from Trondheim and 2,500 km away from the sea. The hardware factory probably makes them according to rather precise specifications provided by the company that ordered and sells them; the contract may stipulate that they should not produce a substantially similar product for other outlet channels. It is not impossible that some hardware factory produces just what you need and is located close-by enough that movement restrictions are not an issue, but since this is not the kind of thing you expect to find in your local hardware store, this seems unlikely. In a hinged-hook item, the most critical part would seem to be the hinges, which should probably meet stricter specs than the hooks – any hardware factory should be able to manufacture these. Thus, assuming your order is large enough, I think your best bet is to negotiate and then place an order with a local hardware factory that already makes hinges of the size and strength required. This approach requires, of course, that you can provide a somewhat more specific description of the desired product. --Lambiam 07:20, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

- In technical terms You're looking for builders hardware, more specific may be cabinet hardware. These items are usually carried at hardware stores (e. g. home depot) where experienced salespersons will be pleased to support You. --87.147.178.173 (talk) 22:16, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
