[edit]Coconut oil
[edit]I'm using coconut oil in my hair for moisturising purposes and am finding it to be effective to prevent dry scalp etc. How often can you use it in hair and how long for to achieve best results? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.33.115.108 (talk) 09:17, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

- It depends on your type of hair and the condition of your skin. Some people have very active oil glands, and their problem is mainly getting rid of the stuff. As long as you stick to coconut oil and maintain a reasonable hygiene, applying more than needed is unlikely to be bad for your skin or your hair; the main negative effects are that stuff you want to keep clean (clothing; upholstering; bed linens) may get greasy; also, you end up spending more than necessary on the oil. Apply each time after you have washed and dried your hair, but not more than needed to prevent dry or itchy scalp. It is overkill to also use conditioner then. For most people with not naturally oily hair, washing it with a mild shampoo once a week is fine, but if you live in an environment with a high concentration of particulate dust, oiled hair will capture more of the dust, and once a week may not be sufficient. --Lambiam 14:41, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
