[edit]Residue of tape on monitor
[edit]My old monitor broke during Easter so I had to buy a new one. Everything is otherwise OK except that the new monitor had stickers on the screen that I had to peel off. One of the stickers left a thin strip of residue of tape less than one millimetre wide at the extreme right edge. If I don't look at it everything is OK, but I am forced to look at it if I have to scroll my browser window. How can I get rid of it without scratching or otherwise damaging the screen? - Make sure the monitor is off. Use the sort of wipes you would use on eyeglasses. Apply alcohol to the wipes if needed. --Khajidha (talk) 00:09, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- There are many things around the world people refer to as alcohol. I think that needs to be clarified. HiLo48 (talk) 01:19, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- Allow me to make a product endorsement. I don't know where else they sell this, but I have been using this for years and it gets rid of everything. It's also non-toxic. [1]Sir Joseph (talk) 01:23, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- "Sorry, we couldn't find that page. Try searching or go to Amazon's home page." However, your link indicates a product called KK32-Original-Concentrated-Degreaser-32-Ounce. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 03:36, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- Original KRUD KUTTER Concentrated Cleaner/Degreaser Stain Remover, 32-Ounce (Amazon); manufacturer's product page. --Lambiam 04:19, 22 April 2020 (UTC) Looking at the list of ingredients, I suspect that it is propylene glycol (also found in many antifreeze products) that does the job. --Lambiam 04:28, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

- Many things will dissolve tape glue. I like to use eucalyptus oil, but methylated spirits also works. Mop up the excess in paper towel or tissue. Vegetable oil or orange oil may also dissolve the glue, but then it has more mess to clean up and it will not evaporate. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:52, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- As a second-hand book collector, I often need to remove stickers from book covers (and occasionally other things). I have found that Lighter fluid (I typically buy Ronsonol brand (MSDS here) in 133 ml cans) effectively softens most sticker gum and usually (though it's best to test first, and use only enough to moisten the sticker itself) evaporates without staining. I've just tested it on my PC screen, and though it didn't shift dirt (I use conventional computer monitor Screen wipes for that), neither did it deliteriously effect the screen. If Khajidha has access to such a product, he might try it. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.122.178.214 (talk) 06:04, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
