[edit]Scawthorpe Doncaster page
[edit]In a post today my name was used, could this post please be removed as I don’t wish to have my name on the page I would appreciate if you could help me with this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vegetarian warrior (talk • contribs) 17:10, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi there. You're at Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia. We don't have an article at Scawthorpe Doncaster and it's not immediately obvious what you're talking about. I suspect that you may have come here via some other website, such as Facebook or a news article. We only have control of our own website and have no say in who links to our pages. If I'm mistaken, please provide additional details about exactly where you saw this, including a copy of the URL (the website address). Matt Deres (talk) 17:43, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- I believe this is the relevant edit. It appears to be vandalism, and has already been removed from the article. But if the person named is upset about it, it should probably be removed from the edit history.
- Vegetarian, an admin will probably see this, but if you don't get satisfaction here, you could try here : Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard

- Done I've removed the edit from the editing history so there is now no publicly viewable record of the edit. --Jayron32 19:15, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

- Ah, good then. I couldn't tell that the thing in the title wasn't it. --69.159.60.147 (talk) 06:59, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
- For clarification, the article in question was Scawthorpe, a village within the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.1955} 90.208.173.186 (talk) 14:59, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
- Borough means Doncaster is in Greater London right? Sagittarian Milky Way (talk) 19:53, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
- No, see Borough --TammyMoet (talk) 14:32, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)A borough is a local government unit. The term "metropolitan borough" originally referred to the 26 boroughs into which the newly created county of London was divided (additional to the City of London). In the 1963 reorganisation the county was greatly expanded and now includes 32 London Boroughs (plus the City of London). In the 1974 reorganisation "metropolitan boroughs" were created outside London, which were not subservient to the councils of the counties in which they fell. I believe these have now been disbanded. 92.27.49.50 (talk) 14:45, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- Slight correction, the 1974 reorganisation created "metropolitan counties", not "metropolitan boroughs". These have been subsumed into the previous counties which were created by William the Conqueror. 92.27.49.50 (talk) 14:49, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
- Metropolitan boroughs are legally "metropolitan districts". They have been given charters conferring borough status. This is similar to how some of the old urban districts and boroughs whose councils were downgraded to parish councils could have them denominated "town councils". Sorry for the confusion - I was out of the country when the reorganisation came into effect. 92.27.49.50 (talk) 15:15, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
