[edit]Origin of the surname Shmoyshman
[edit]Can any user please suggest the origin of the surname SHMOYSHMAN of a person who came from Bessarabia (today Moldova). Thank you. Simonschaim (talk) 08:54, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Shmoishman is listed once as her father's last name in the death record of Ida Broffman in California. "Shmoy" seem Yiddish and gets a lot of vaguely Jewish related hits. Do you have the Bessarabian/Moldovan spelling, which I presume is in Cyrillic? μηδείς (talk) 19:59, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Shmoysh is also apparently Yiddish, meaning "lambskin". Just a suggestion, but stranger things have formed the basis of a surname. --Antiquary (talk) 10:54, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
