Page move request - Euler polynomials and Bernoulli polynomials (whatever they are)

[edit]

Hi all,

Over at Category:Candidates_for_speedy_deletion there's a request to move Euler polynomials (which was historically a WP:REDIRECT to Bernoulli polynomials) to Euler polynomial. The substantive content Euler polynomial is fairly new, and would seem to be contentious.

I have pretty much no idea what this about, and would appreciate your assistance with this.

And by "I have pretty much no idea what this about", please remember this is from someone who does their Hunter Valley Development calculations by counting on their fingers.

@Deb, Miguel Ángel Hurtado Benavides, Cosmic6811, Rosguill, and Linas: update: Euler polynomial / Euler polynomials has now been deleted. It appears it was initially created as redirect in 2005, which was counts on fingers 18 years ago. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 09:54, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I got totally mixed up with this one, but article titles shouldn't be pluralized (especially since a "Polynomial" [sic] article exists). Deb (talk) 09:59, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Euler polynomials are definitely a thing.[1][2][3] Rather than moving a redirect page with a plural name to the singular, one should add a redirect page for the singular form. Note that Bernoulli polynomial redirects to Bernoulli polynomials.
As to the argument that the article naming conventions require titles to be singular, WP:SINGULAR makes an exception for the names of classes of objects, which IMO also covers the Euler polynomials. Also, this rule applies to the titles of articles, not to the titles of redirects. WP:RPURPOSE explicitly mentions plurals as a reason for creating and maintaining redirects, giving as an example that Greenhouse gases redirects to Greenhouse gas.  --Lambiam 10:02, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just as an aside, I think this discussion more properly belongs on WT:WPM. I haven't given it a whole lot of thought, but what Lambiam said seems reasonable. --RDBury (talk) 11:06, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Umm. 2005 was - counts on fingers - 2006, 2007 - about 20 years ago? I'm not good with mathsShirt58 (talk) 🦘 12:03, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, shouldn't it be count on finger? 😁 NadVolum (talk) 17:24, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I have not found a Wikipedia page that talks about Euler polynomials, and I thought that on the Euler Polynomial page you will be able to contribute.
Regarding the expressions put on integral recurrences, I gave them due reference, there are no others, since the article is indexed. Miguel Ángel Hurtado Benavides (talk) 19:57, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Euler polynomials are discussed on the page Bernoulli polynomials. See also WT:WPM § Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials  --Lambiam 23:30, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
