Examples of linear, nonlinear. or chaotic time series

[edit]

While I understand the formulas that could generate these different kinds of time series, could anyone provide real-life examples of the different time series please? Particularly as relating to economic or financial series. What caterory would stock markets or currencies fall into, for example? Thanks 92.28.247.183 (talk) 20:14, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Linear - any regular fixed amount bill, eg monthly phone plan with inclusive call charges - $=kt. Non-linear - savings versus time with compounding interest - $now = $initial*(1+i)^t. Chaotic - share prices - $=random(t). -- SGBailey (talk) 08:24, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
