[edit]Minor but puzzling naming
[edit]Why is Elizabeth, Lady William Russell, not Lady George Russell, seeing as she married Lord George Russell (middle name William)? Is this some nefarious rule designed to keep the lower classes off balance? Clarityfiend (talk) 14:38, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- Clarityfiend, her ODNB article refers to Lord (George) William Russell, which suggests that he went by the name of Lord William Russell. TSventon (talk) 15:14, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- You've got to be careful with your Lord William Russells, as there's also William Russell, Lord Russell, commonly called Lord William Russell, and Lord William Russell. I've just corrected a few wrong internal links, but someone needs to take them all in hand, and rename and disambiguate appropriately. DuncanHill (talk) 15:57, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Clarityfiend (talk) 09:32, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
- Both articles are in odd places. If the husband was known as "Lord William Russell" rather than "Lord George Russell" (which, per the above, it seems he was), then his article should be some disambiguated form of the former name (Lord William Russell (British Army officer) perhaps, judging by the usual disambiguation in Category:British Army generals); and "Elizabeth, Lady William Russell" is not a style which would ever be used in real life, and our normal practice would simply be to use Lady William Russell (which is where the article was until 2017), as with Lady Henry Somerset and Lady Colin Campbell. mature
[edit]Is there any other English word, with the stress being on the last syllable "ture"? 2A06:C701:7466:9200:A8E7:8A27:9D0E:9FBA (talk) 19:17, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- Might depend if you consider wikt:couture English and how you pronounce it. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 19:49, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- wikt:immature. --Amble (talk) 05:33, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Also manure. Alansplodge (talk) 10:06, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, that lacks the "t". Alansplodge (talk) 10:10, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Ture Rangstrom springs unhelpfully to mind. MinorProphet (talk) 15:34, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Or, in that case, Ture Sventon, I guess. The best English approximation I can come up with for the name is too-reh. 惑乱 Wakuran (talk) 17:16, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- I agree with your approximation, and raise you (even more unhelpfully), Agaton Sax. MinorProphet (talk) 17:45, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
