[edit]resort-style locale in music video
[edit]I was watching the video for the song Love Come Down. It showed Evelyn King exploring around what looks like an island while carrying a basket [1]. Is the locale somewhere in the Caribbean? Anyone know?2603:7000:8641:810E:B462:FCBF:E17B:D933 (talk) 11:12, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- It looks like Sint Maarten. I'm pretty sure that's Philipsburg, Sint Maarten in the background at 19 seconds in. Look at the upper right image here. I think she's at the Cruise Ship port, or that vicinity. You can get some very similar views of those mountains looking at images in Google Maps Street View. --Jayron32 12:22, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- It may also be Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands, on the island of St. Thomas. Both Philipsburg and Charlotte Amalie are situated on similar shaped bays, with similar looking Mountains in the distance, and have similar looking architecture (and from this distance, and from 30+ years ago, look very different today!). At 1:14 she's walking along a wharf of some sort; if this is Sint Maarten, this is the current location of the Philipsburg cruise ship port, and if this is St. Thomas, that's the location of one of the cruise ship docks, Havensight Cruise Pier. At first, I took the mostly unpopulated hilly area to the left of that shot to be the hilly peninsula that Fort Amsterdam on Sint Maarten is located, but now when I look at it, it could also be Hassel Island, which would be similarly located for the same vantage point on St. Thomas. There's even a fort on the island, Fort Willoughby, that would be in about the same location as Fort Amsterdam would be in the Sint Maarten shots. I've got some google windows open looking at the views from the eastern edge of Long Bay on St. Thomas, and from a similar vantage point on Great Bay on Sint Maarten, and it's striking how similar both look. Honestly, I'm actually leaning a bit more towards Charlotte Amalie as being the location here, but only slightly. --Jayron32 18:35, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- This page at rateyourmusic for the single Betcha She Don't Love You / Get Up Off Your Love notes a video "complete with credit roll for the camera crew and the Virgin Islands tourism board." And indeed, you can find the video on YouTube for Betcha She Don't Love You, with credits at the end including "Special thanks to Frenchman's Reef Hotel, St. Thomas, V.I. and The Virgin Island Film Promotion Office". It's another song from the same album, probably with the videos made at the same time. --Amble (talk) 17:20, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- More evidence for Charlotte Amalie then. Excellent! --Jayron32 17:24, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, well done on the geolocation. --Amble (talk) 22:10, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I have a good memory for places I've been. It's a weird party trick, and good for Geoguessr, but not much else. Glad it was useful! --Jayron32 13:00, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, gang.2603:7000:8641:810E:338:32DA:589A:8A1B (talk) 21:53, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
