[edit]Longest pre-release announcement
[edit]Dear WP,
Avatar 5, the 4th sequel to the 2009 film Avatar, is set for release on 19 December 2025. Are there any other films which have had specific release dates set by a major studio (such that they are funded and not just PR stunts) that far ahead? 51.9.121.174 (talk) 19:12, 25 May 2017 (UTC)
- It is not very uncommon with sequels. The Star Wars prequels had all three release dates set at once. It doesn't have to be a string of sequels. Disney likes to schedule their releases many years in advance. They release a big movie in the Spring and just before Christmas every year and they have already scheduled at least five years, if not more. I know that Incredibles 2 is the Spring 2018 movie. Ralph 2 is Christmas 2018. Toy Story 4 is Spring 2019. Frozen 2 is Christmas 2019. Indiana Jones is Spring 2020. Gigantic is Christmas 2020. Then, Pixar has been tasked with producing two new movies (not sequels) for Spring and Christmas 2021. That is the 5 year plan in the stockholders prospectus for the end of 2016. Further, a long series of sequels can have a distant start date. After the first Harry Potter movie was successful, the rest of the movie release dates were set. It is important to note that just because a release date is set doesn't mean that it cannot be changed. The last Harry Potter movie was split into two movies, obviously changing the release dates. So, Avatar 5 is currently set for 19 December 2025, but it might get pulled early or pushed back. It might get canceled all together. It is not guaranteed to be released specifically on that day 209.149.113.5 (talk) 12:36, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
- I don't know if it falls under the heading of a PR stunt (probably does), but the film 100 Years is scheduled to be released on 18 November 2115. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:40, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
