[edit]Russell Mulcahy and the Wild Boys
[edit]Firstly, does anyone know what Russell Mulcahy is up to nowadays, and secondly, anyone else up for starting a crowdfunding effort for him to direct his vision of The Wild Boys based on the aesthetic of his music video? DuncanHill (talk) 02:46, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- Did you read the article? The lead has a sentence that contains the words "is currently". That seems like enough of a context clue making your question a bit unnecessary, n'est ce pas? --Jayron32 02:50, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- With no indication of when "is currently" refers to. DuncanHill (talk) 03:40, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- "Currently" is a Wikipedia naughty word: WP:Currently.--Shantavira|feed me 07:54, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- I've added a
{{when}}
tag, for someone to fix it when they have the information. Meanwhile, his filmography or his biography page at the IMDB may provide answers, although it should be noted that IMDB biography pages, like Wikipedia articles, may often contain information that is out of date when they are about living people. --76.71.5.45 (talk) 10:55, 17 November 2016 (UTC)- Here is a recent-ish interview (June 2016). Maybe there's something in there for the OP. --Jayron32 13:33, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- This search shows he spent much of 2016 touring the world and doing events to promote the 30th anniversary of Highlander. A few of the interviews discuss his relationship with Duran Duran in the 1980s, but I can find no information about any desire to revive a feature film version of Wild Boys. Which is to say, there is NOT any source which says "It is not happening", but rather, there are no sources that say anything about it. --Jayron32 13:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

- The second part of your question is not going to get an answer here as that is not what ref desks are for. They are not social websites. Your best bet is to post this request on your facebook page or even at a crowdfinding website and see how it goes. MarnetteD|Talk 17:30, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

From Russia with love
[edit]In From Russia With Love, does the assassin Kirilenko (the one who leads the attack on the gypsy camp, and who then gets shot by Kerim Bey while rappelling down a movie poster) work for the KGB or for Spectre? That's the one thing I couldn't figure out after watching the movie. 2601:646:8E01:7E0B:F88D:DE34:7772:8E5B (talk) 22:17, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

- Quote from SMERSH (James Bond):
- SMERSH is a fictional Soviet counterintelligence agency featured in Ian Fleming's early James Bond novels as agent 007's nemesis. SMERSH is the acronym of Spetsialnye MEtody Razoblacheniya SHpionov, meaning "Special Methods of Spy Detection", (in Russian Cyrillic СМЕРШ: Специальные Методы Разоблaчения Шпионов).[1]
- Fleming's version of SMERSH supposedly was modelled upon the real SMERSH organisation, which existed 1943-1946 (the real name is a portmanteau of two Russian words: "SMERt' SHpionam" [СМЕРть Шпионам, Směrť Špionam] meaning "Death to Spies"). However, the novels portray SMERSH as a massive Soviet counterintelligence organisation, much more resembling the real-life KGB, which aims its operatives abroad in subversion of the West, with the additional goal of killing Western spies, particularly James Bond of SIS. SMERSH's headquarters are variously stated to be in Leningrad or in Moscow, Soviet Union..
- So, in a word, no. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 22:36, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, another question has come to my mind: was the bombing of Kerim Bey's HQ the work of Spectre, or was it done by Smersh in retaliation for the murder of one of their agents (which was done by Red Grant, but they logically but wrongly concluded that it must have been MI6)? 2601:646:8E01:7E0B:F88D:DE34:7772:8E5B (talk) 05:57, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

- Nobody knows? OK then, I put it into the "we'll never know" category -- however, since there was no mention of it subsequently, I'm inclined to believe it was the work of Spectre and not KGB. 2601:646:8E01:7E0B:F88D:DE34:7772:8E5B (talk) 07:20, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- It was SMERSH, which was a fictionalized version of the KGB. It being fictional, I rather doubt that Gorbachev or anyone else leading Glasnost would have mentioned it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 08:05, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- So are you saying that it was Smersh that did it, in retaliation for the murder of their agent? 2601:646:8E01:7E0B:F88D:DE34:7772:8E5B (talk) 23:34, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
