[edit]Moses & The Ten Commandments - Film/Bible Differences
[edit]Are there differences between the two films about Moses and the Ten Commandments? The Ten Commandments (1956) and Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014). 86.169.72.176 (talk) 18:50, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
- For one thing, there's no evidence whatsoever that there was a huge corridor carved into the waters of the Red Sea. That was an invention of Cecil B. DeMille, who made both a silent and a sound version, and used the same technique: trip-tanks with matte paintings to present the illusion. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 19:46, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
Were any of the events in the Bible were featured in both films? Examples: death of baby boys, baby Moses, Moses's appearance and the Staff of Moses. 86.169.72.176 (talk) 20:44, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
- All of those were certainly in the 1956 film. The deaths of the firstborn are, of course, essential to the story. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:00, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
- You do know you're allowed to watch the movies yourself and read the Bible yourself. We're not here to tell you what to think. We're here to provide you with links to information; you already know of the existence to all relevant sources here (the Bible and the movies in question). You're a mature enough person to think for yourself; you don't need random strangers on the internet telling you what to think. --Jayron32 09:43, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Milhouse's parents.
[edit]Why is it that Milhouse Van Houten's parents Kirk and Luanne look like each other? --Fasta-Platsa (talk) 22:05, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
- It's a hackneyed joke, which TV Tropes names "StrongFamilyResemblance". The Simpsons Wikia on Luann Van Houten says
- Luann, Kirk and Milhouse all look so similar that Bart once asked Luann and Kirk if they are siblings [ ref Little Orphan Millie, season 19]. In the season 26 episode Let's Go Fly a Coot, Milhouse tells Bart that his parents are actually cousins.
- I think the incest is a later elaboration rather than an essential of the joke. Some of the other kids have parents who look like each other too (Nelson, Ralph) although I think none stand out like the Van Houtens' glasses. jnestorius(talk) 02:28, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- Can we call it incest, even if they are cousins. In most of the world marriage between first cousins is legal - and even in the USA some states allow it (while in others it may be a criminal offence). As no-one knows which state Springfield is in, we have no way of knowing what the law there might be. 81.132.106.10 (talk) 15:15, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- Cousin marriage law in the United States by state is a useful reference. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:50, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
- No discussion of inbreeding on the Simpsons would be complete without Cletus Spuckler. StuRat (talk) 03:15, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
