Jesus Christ Superstar

[edit]

Jesus Christ Superstar, an article about the musical, is listed a "1970 rock opera." however, 1970 is when the concept album came out, with the first staging taking place in 1971. Should we not say that it is as "1971 rock opera"? hbdragon88 (talk) 08:36, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. An opera can exist as a recording or a composition before it is staged. Indeed, some operas are never staged at all. If the recording was first released in 1970, then calling it a "1970 rock opera" sounds fine to me, although personally I would prefer it if no date was given at all. This is all explained in the introduction to the article. --Viennese Waltz 08:55, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
