[edit]Was the Madonna song La_Isla_Bonita really popular between 1999-2002?
[edit]I remember hearing it on the radio between 1999-2002. I know it's a 80's song but was it still a popular song during that time around 2000? Bluestarcanada (talk) 21:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- There are mentions of covers and sampling from the song around that time in the article in the cover versions and popular culture appearance section. It's possible that it was in a soundtrack around that time as well which the article might not mention.
- It's also possible that it was just popular with the radio station staff around that time and they played it enough for you to remember it played often. Not all stations have their playlists mandated by the corporation that owns them (though many do). It's also possible that you heard it on a station with a varied playlist. I have one such station near me that it completely automated and has no DJs. Their tagline is "Whatever. Whenever." and it's not unusual for them to play older music. For instance, they might play something by Frank Sinatra, then The Clash, and then follow it up with Lady Gaga. Playing what was then a 15-20 year old song like "La Isla Bonita" would be just another day for them. Dismas|(talk) 23:57, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
