Video Games

[edit]

Is it true that there are games targeted at adults that are rated E for everyone? If there is tell me names of games. User:APL said there were. But if the one that make games and it was for adult would they put stuff in it like blood and gore so it would not be rated E?69.131.127.58 (talk) 00:37, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you think that adults are only interested in blood and gore? I can find many many games rated E which are not marketed towards kids, but are instead marketed towards adults. The Biggest Loser is a weight-loss and workout video game marketed towards adults. Brain Age is a brain-teaser-and-puzzle game rated E which is marketed towards adults (especially if one considers the TV commercials featuring it). These two are not the only two in existence; don't think that because I only listed two that I made an exhaustive search. There are many more. That there is nothing objectionable in a game (i.e. no sex or language or blood or adult themes) doesn't mean that the game is marketed towards or developed with children in mind. Being an adult does not mean that your life is filled with never ending sex and murder. Sometimes, adults are interested in things children are not, and many of those things aren't necessarily bad for kids, just not very interesting for them (usually). --Jayron32 00:43, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me all of them. And none of team are Mario series,Pokemon series,The Legend of Zelda Series, Mother/Earthbound series, Golden Sun series, Okami, Okamiden, Kingdom Heart series, Sonic series, Dragon Quest series, all Naruto games, all Dragonball games, all Case Closed games, Diisgaea series, Professor Layton series, Ape Escape series, Mega Man series, Harvest Moon series, all Gundam games, Chrono Trigger, all One Piece games, Tale of the Abyss and Solatorobo:Red the Hunter right? I mean in Japan and the USA mainly Japan. I mean can they all be played by Young Children 6 and up in Japan.69.131.127.58 (talk) 01:19, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No one is going to tell you all of them. There are thousands of games released on a dozen different platforms every year, and there is absolutely no way anyone here at Wikipedia could list every game which has been rated "E" over the history of video games. That's a plainly rediculous request. --Jayron32 01:31, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than attempting to figure out in advance which games are aimed at adults, you should figure out which games you're interested in, then read up on them online (see what others thought of them). Heck froze over (talk) 17:23, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Veratos or truth plant

[edit]

In the movie," The Good Witch's Garden" the witch character has a plant called a veratos plant or truth plant. Is there such a plant? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.42.112.179 (talk) 00:50, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, that was invented for the movie. --Jayron32 00:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Video Games in Japan

[edit]

Can Japanese childrens six and up play all of these games((Mario series,Pokemon series,Most of the games in the Legend of Zelda series,Okami,Okamiden,Cooking Mama Series,Mother/Earthbound series,Dragon Quest series,Kingdom Heart series,Dragonball series,Naruto series, Golden Sun series,Disgaea series, Professor Layton series,Mega Man series,Harvest Moon series,Sonic series,Ape Escape series,Gundam series,One Piece series,Chrono Trigger,Tale of the Abyss,Solatorobo:Red the Hunter and Boktai series))? They are all rated A all ages in Japan. The Legend of Zelda:Link's Awakeing and The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess are the only The Legend of Zelda games that are not rated A all ages.69.131.127.58 (talk) 02:08, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Stop asking. Mingmingla (talk) 02:35, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some of those games require reading ability beyond what you'd expect from a first grader, so they would get stuck and not enjoy the experience. But beyond that, sure, why not?
What are you getting at anyway? Do you think there's some conspiracy here? It's easy. Ratings do not tell you what age a game is designed for, they only tell you what ages the games are safe for. Whether the kid will enjoy the game is an entirely different question.
So sure, give some little kid ChronoTrigger, he won't get past the millennial fair, but he's not going to be scarred by sex or violence either.76.127.236.202 (talk) 09:41, 26 November 2011 (UTC) I disargee with you. Chrono Trigger is not hard. What do you mean some of those games require reading ability beyond a firt grader? Tell me all of team. That not true.It not the same in Japan right? All of this is just your opinion. A Japanese six year old can beat Chrono Trigger. I asking about Japanese childrens that are six year playing these games. Childrens are not idoit. Special:Contributions/69.131.127.86|69.131.127.86]] (talk) 12:42, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So you already know that a japanese 6 year old can beat Chrono Trigger? Then why are you asking us these questions? This is not a good place to start a debate. It's a place to ask questions which can be answered by citing references. If you want to ask people their personal opinions about video games, there are better webistes for that. Best would probably be to talk to your friends and other people you actually know. Staecker (talk) 12:58, 26 November 2011 (UTC) I argee with Mingmingla on what she or he said. No reply please.69.131.127.86 (talk) 13:09, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Chrono Trigger requires the player to read pages and pages of text. Some six year olds can't read at all, and most of the one's that can aren't going to be able to read well enough to comprehend the dialog in Chrono Trigger. ( but again, that's not what ratings are about.) APL (talk) 00:41, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Tell me what do you mean it to hard to read. The Text is not that small. It does not mean Japanese kids right/ The Text is just as big as it is in Pokemon games. Most six year old can read that well. You just think this is not for kids because you play as teen. Find a Japanese six year old who played this in Japan.69.131.127.99 (talk) 01:27, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why are you asking questions if you won't listen to the answers? APL (talk) 01:36, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey you did not anwser my question. Please anwser them and I will not asking. But if I do not like it I might ask agian.69.131.127.99 (talk) 01:50, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Look. an answer is an answer. Unless someone else (aside from those who've already tried to answer) sees your question and posts something, you'll keep getting the same answers. Heck froze over (talk) 04:41, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chrono Trigger

[edit]

Can a Japanese child beat Chrono Trigger if they try very hard? They can play it because it is rated A all ages in Japan. In the USA it is rated Everyone 10 and up on the Nintendo DS and T for teen on the Playstaion.69.131.127.86 (talk) 13:44, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To re-iterate the above points old boy, game rating systems rate content not difficulty! It's up to a responsible adult to judge whether a particular child has the skills to actually play the game in a reasonable manner! Quintessential British Gentleman (talk) 14:17, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that a kid who spent their life playing videogames will most likely be better at playing them than a (supposedly smarter) adult. Heck froze over (talk) 17:24, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But not if they can't read the dialog that includes your story and objectives. Obviously. APL (talk) 00:43, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Erm, most kids playing video games can read. Keep in mind that asians have a rep for being smarter. That probably is in their favor. Heck froze over (talk) 04:38, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but this particular poster is obsessed by which games could be played by a six year old.
The Japanese have two written alphabets. Kana and Kanji. Chrono Trigger uses both, but a six year old would not know Kanji, he would still be learning to read the more basic Kana writing.
So unless the six year old was rather advanced in his reading abilities, much of Chrono Trigger's dialog would be incomprehensible to him, and without understanding the dialog the game would be unpleasant and almost impossible to play.APL (talk) 07:49, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, didn't know that... Heck froze over (talk) 14:21, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can a reading Glasses help team?69.131.127.128 (talk) 20:18, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The King's Speech - end

[edit]

My DVD of The King's Speech has been scratched, and it fails at what I guess is the end. The scene where Logue prepares Bertie in Westminster Abbey finishes, and it cuts to the scene with the family and Lang watching footage of the coronation (1 hr 27 mins and a few seconds). Margaret starts to speak, and that's where it dies on me. Reading the synopsis it sounds like there's maybe 3 or 4 minutes left. How much of the film am I missing? 87.114.106.233 (talk) 16:45, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it's more than that. The Wikipedia article gives "running time" as 118 minutes, so that suggests I'm not seeing the last 19 minutes of it. Some (perhaps up to 9 minutes) is credits (is that included in the "running time"?) so I suppose I'm missing about 10 minutes or so of actual film? 87.114.106.233 (talk) 16:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The credits begin rolling at 1:47:17, so you are missing the last 20 minutes. AJCham 17:59, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just to add a little extra info - the running time of 118 minutes was for the original cut submitted for classification ahead of the theatrical release. The DVD/BD version runs at 113 minutes, including credits. AJCham 18:08, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Really I should have asked "am I missing a sufficiently significant chunk of the film that I need to get a new copy" and clearly I am, and I do. Cheers! 87.114.106.233 (talk) 19:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, with the question phrased like that I would have answered yes, even if you had been correct in your initial estimate of 3-4 minutes. It's a great film and deserves to be seen to its conclusion. AJCham 21:52, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As I recall, there's no dramatic twist at the end, he just gives a successful speech and thanks his speech therapist. StuRat (talk) 13:45, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but it wasn't any old speech - it was a rather important one. (Don't click the link if you don't want to know what happens!) Alansplodge (talk) 18:56, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HDTV channels - jerky, dropping frames

[edit]

On the HD channels on my cable TV, the motion is jerky, like there aren't the right number of frames per second. I think it is this way on all HD channels. Is this the way it is with all HDTV, or is it a problem with my cable TV system? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:50, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's certainly not meant to be that way - if it were, nobody in their right mind would be paying for it. My guess is a bandwidth issue with your Cable service. Do they provide your Internet service too? What are your download speeds like? Are the HD channels always jerky, or does it vary by time of day?
Definitely give the cable company a call, especially if you are paying extra for the HD channels. AJCham 01:25, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, they are my ISP provider. I get about 6.8 megabits/second download. It seems that all HD channels are jerky at times, but it depends on how much motion there is in the picture. I don't think it varies by time of day. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:07, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It is after midnight now, and it is not jerky! What does that mean? Too many people were using too much bandwidth in prime time? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:27, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would contact your TV provider. You shouldn't have to pay for a substandard service, you should ask them to fix the problem. --Jayron32 06:10, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also note that the highest resolution of 1080i is jerky even when you get every frame, when there is motion. This is especially true with larger screens. The 30 frames per second it provides just aren't enough. Some high-end TVs attempt to interpolate to add more frames in-between. The lower resolution HD standard of 720p provides 60 frames per second, which looks a lot better with motion. StuRat (talk) 13:54, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
