[edit]Harper's Bazaar August 1950
[edit]In Harper's Bazaar, the August 1950 issue, there is a famous cover depicting a co-ed infront of a taxi. Who is this cover girl? She is not listed in the issue. Where could I find out? 198.185.164.128 20:14, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Here is a link to the cover in question: [1]. --Canley 04:25, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Why was Anna Nicole Smith and her son taking Methadone anyway? 71.100.171.80 01:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Most likely the same reason anyone abuses a drug, to get high. Cyraan 01:54, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- But why Methadone? Why not pot, meth, crack, cocaine (by far the preferred drug of the rich for highs) or heroin (known to be easier to shake by total abstinence than Methadone)? 71.100.171.80 03:20, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think we will ever know. You might have to ask her that… oh wait. − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 04:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

- Regardless, the reference desk is supposed to be for collecting factual information, not opinion. Of course, most people see it as a place to voice their opinion about things they have little knowledge of (Why's everyone looking at me?), but that isn't what it is for. --Kainaw (talk) 21:57, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree 100% that the purpose here should be to determine the facts no different than in a court of law where expression of opinion (especially contrary opinion) is often necessary and but one way to solicit factual response which might otherwise allow the facts to go unnoticed or to remain hidden. Suppression of opinion on a talk page is therefore an indication of the desire to hide rather than to expose certain inconvenient facts. 71.100.171.80 00:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hogwash. This is a reference desk, and all of the above is mere speculation. It's not being used to try to arrive at anything other than to show that the anon making the claims is trying to appear superior to Stern. Corvus cornix 01:49, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

- <re-removing BLP violation - Corvus cornix 00:34, 6 March 2007 (UTC)>. Even ancient pharos, I have read, had to be wary of their “superior” advisors and priests. 71.100.171.80 17:44, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Song from a car commercial
[edit]I am looking for the name of a song which has lyrics something like: "Will we get older / or will we just grow tall?". It is in a car commercial (in Canada). I (stupidly) neglected to check which company made the car, since I ran to Google search those lyrics, to no avail. It is a family car—there is a father in front and his daughter in the back seat, in their driveway—that is all I know about the car.
Does anyone recognize these lyrics, or know the commercial? − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 02:33, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Long shot, since the lyrics aren't THAT close, but the cadence rang a bell, so I went hunting. Perhaps the song was When We Grow Up, from Free to Be... You and Me? Lyrics here. Jfarber 03:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- No, that wasn't it. Hopefully I can listen to the song again. − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 04:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- An extremely long shot, again based on cadence & rhyme. Could it possibly be White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane? Crypticfirefly 06:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- No. I neglected to clarify that it was a female singer, with fairly sparse instrumentation (reminiscent of anti-folk musicians such as Kimya Dawson) − Twas Now ( talk • contribs • e-mail ) 06:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- Check out Adtunes.com -- they have extensive listings. --24.249.108.133 22:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- I have now asked at Adtunes, and someone else was interested in the song. The commercial is for Chevrolet, and the car featured is (maybe) an Equinox, but the commercial is really about the warranty that comes with all Chevy vehicles. Some more lyrics are:
- The sun will shine
- The moon will rise and fall
- Will we get older
- Or will we just grow tall?
- We will be together
- We will be the best of friends forever

- The car is a Chevrolet Cobalt (found other requests for what the song was). Neil (not Proto ►) 14:39, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
- THE ARTIST IS NAMED LINDY www.lindymusic.com who sings "Best Friends Forever" which is featured on his myspace page at www.myspace.com/lindymusic
and he is not a female.. as the previous poster thought the singer in the cmercial was, nor does he have a female voice!
Question about "The Jeffersons"
[edit]Please help me resolve this mystery of mine.
Who is the artist and what is the title of the seascape picture over the desk at the entrance of George and Louise Jefferson's penthouse apartment, on the television show, "The Jefferson's" This picture features a large green wave and rock boulders on the left and right sides. Stancilla 05:06, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- You already asked this question and it was answered to the best of the Reference Desk's ability. Scroll up and see what was said. --Kainaw (talk) 13:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- In other words, try "Movin' on up". :-) StuRat 21:10, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
modern filipino composers
[edit]what are some names of modern Filipino composers? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.76.199.198 (talk) 09:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC).
- Though I don't see a discrete list herein, there seem to be a few relevant names in the first page of results for a wikipedia search of "filipino composers". Jfarber 16:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Chic compilation
[edit]Is there some problem preventing the release of a proper compilation of Chic (band)'s production work? I'm amazed there hasn't been one, it seems such an obvious idea for a box set. I know there are a few combined Chic/Sister Sledge compilations around (invariably including several Sister Sledge tracks that had nothing to do with Chic) which makes it even stranger that there's no "proper" Chic Organisation retrospective. Are the surviving members against it, or are there insurmountable legal issues, or what? 88.111.185.239 18:08, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- A compilation album would most likely have to be licensed through Atlantic Records (as they appear to own all of the music). So, it is a matter of someone feeling that they can license from Atlantic, pay for creating the CDs, pay for marketing, pay for distribution, and still turn a hefty profit. It will be hard to find someone willing to do it for a small profit. I found that licensing, creation, marketing, and distribution are rather expensive for the normal person to get into when I used this sort of thing as a business plan for an economics class. My idea was to market a CD of hit songs written by Bob Dylan but made top 10 hits by other bands. Turned out that I'd be losing money on each CD that I sold because the songs were owned by too many different people/companies. --Kainaw (talk) 20:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
