Metric system gone amok?

[edit]

Why is the French version of 60 Minutes called 66 Minutes? Clarityfiend 00:17, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it because each show runs for 66 minutes? Rockpocket 01:52, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For distinction and unity, and to include a reference to M6 in its title? ---Sluzzelin talk 02:01, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are either of these two answers more than guesses? Or are the Cheese-eating surrender monkeys playing with what's left of my mind? Clarityfiend 22:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how this has anythign to do with the metric system gone amok? :/ Capuchin 11:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You mean the metric system hasn't rationalized the 60-minute hour? How delightfully primitive! jk Clarityfiend 21:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Et voila! It is that, the French wikipedia calls it 60 minutes. No? --Cody.Pope 05:32, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, know that I've found the 66 Minutes article, may I suggest simply an accident of faux amis? --Cody.Pope 05:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So you think our English article is incorrect about the connection? Could be, since the French 66 Minutes doesn't mention it. Clarityfiend 08:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I ofund some links, but it's not clear if the two shows are related: [1] [2] 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 13:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Romita

[edit]

Was the John Romita appearing in American Ninja the same as the Spiderman cartoonist ? Yours--Inyan 06:03, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there are two Spider-Man cartoonists named John Romita, but I can't find any info about anyone appearing in an "American Ninja" film. John Romita Sr. was born in 1930, and John Romita Jr. in 1956, so they would be approx. 55 and 29 years old in 1985 when the movie came out. Does that make sense? 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 09:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TV space program

[edit]

There was a made for TV show about a 3 or 4 foot in diameter hole in the ground created by a spacecraft in the back yard (which was full of junk typical of a country red neck's estate). A woman and her brother or boyfriend or step dad found this hole and he left her to guard it while he went to get wench so he could see what was at the bottom. While he was gone she lowered some stuff down on a rope and the creatures at the bottom sent her some other stuff back up. Anyone know the name of this show? I don't think it was an Outer Limits program or a Twilight Zone episode but could have been. (Asked this before but the date isn't in the archive.) 71.100.3.92 10:25, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I remember it was answered... 惑乱 分からん * \)/ (\ (< \) (2 /) /)/ * 10:55, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
... but incorrectly. 71.100.3.92 19:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For some reason March 12th & 13th didn't get archived. But the last answer to your question is stored for posterity here. Spiral Wave 14:03, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, not Invaders from Mars (1953 film). There was another one where there was a thing inside a cave that sent out bat vampire like flying creatures that left two short antenna poking out of the back of the neck, but that was not it either. This one was cute and tounge in cheek comical not at all scary except maybe for "Earl" or whatever the half-wit brother's name was. 71.100.3.92 15:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Found it! ...was not an outer space flick but a down to Earth short which the Wikipedia [sometimes] mimics! 71.100.3.92 22:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TV shows showing someone searching the internet

[edit]

Can a TV show - show someone SEARCHING THE INTERNET?

That is, can I turn on a TV show that as part of the show, shows someone searching the internet and of course, shows the various sites that person is going to? Lawyers I contacted "are not sure"...as it may violate copyright law..or may not?

I submitted a question but did not sign it.

I wanted to know if it is LEGAL or if there is any research on the subject of:

SHOWING SOMEONE SEARCH THE INTERNET ON A TV SHOW.

That is, can I turn on my TV and watch someone SEARCHING the net and show the sites they go to?

Wow... one question in four competing formats! Anyway, yes -- it's perfectly legal to show the internet on TV. In practice, though, it's rarely done. Computer screens (well, legitimate things on computer screens) read very poorly on TV, so the relevant information is usually conveyed either by (1) a mockup with giant legible text or (2) Matrix-like technical-looking nonsense on-screen while a character talks about what it means. — Lomn 18:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It can be that the TV company is forced to remove the logos, though: for example, the music video "White & Nerdy" features "Weird Al" Yankovic vandalising the Atlantic Records Wikipedia article with the phrase "YOU SUCK!". However, for legal reasons, the Wikipedia logo was stripped from the TV version of the video. The video also demonstrates Lomn's first point (as the type face used by Wikipedia is way too small to appear properly on a TV screen, they used a massive version of Impact (image from internet version)). It also depends on which country you're recording and showing the recording in. Copyright law differs all over the World. - X201 10:43, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some companies actually provide fictional websites which can be used without being considered copyright infringement or product placement (in a country like the UK, this would arguably be a bigger obstacle to getting your show aired): for example, when Rose searched the web for information about the Doctor in Rose, she used "search-wise.net", a fictional search engine created solely for this sort of purpose. How do i find information, such as the year a film was made and its distributor, on this site? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 198.188.96.2 (talk) 17:30, 19 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Type in the film's title in the search box. You could also go to the Internet Movie Database. Clarityfiend 18:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
