[edit]Sky on fire film
[edit]Hello,
Trying to recall the name of a lousy sci-fi movie made either in the 1950s or 1960s. The premise of the film was that somehow the atmosphere had caught on fire. I vaguely recall that atomic weapons were either the cause of the fire or were used to put it out. Does anyone know which film this was? Thanks! W. B. Wilson 05:21, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- That sounds like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, which inspired a cheesy TV series. Clarityfiend 06:34, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Clarityfiend, I believe you've identified it! Thanks again. W. B. Wilson 06:47, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
ACTORS, SINGERS, ENTERTAINERS, IN MOVIES & TELEVISON.......
[edit]I WOULD LIKE THE NAMES OF ALL ACTORS, SINGERS, ENTERTAINERS, IN MOVIES & TELEVISION; WHO WERE IN ALL THE WARS, WE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN..
I HAVE TRIED TO FIND THIS INFO; MAYBE YOU COUD GIVE ME AN IDEA WHERE I CAN FIND MY ANSWER....THANKS, LAURA [email address removed]
- Are you trying to break as many rules as possible or something? Don't use all capital letters, use a specific title, don't give your email address... Most importantly, you don't even say what country you're from, so we have no idea who the "WE" in "THE WARS, WE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN" refers to. —Keenan Pepper 07:25, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I doubt any of them have been in all the wars. They'd have to be very old for that. -88.109.200.188 12:09, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Unless "WE" means some set of living persons. —Tamfang 03:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I speculate that what Laura wants to know is the names of the all actors etc in all the movies about all the wars in which her country - whatever it is - has ever been involved. Unless her country is something like Nauru or Pitcairn Island, this would probably be a very long list of names, requiring a great deal of research to compile. -- JackofOz 01:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
HI.....Sorry for all the confusion concerning my request & the failure of not posting this entire inquiry in a better fashion. I, Laura, live in Florida; I like to do displays at the library for Veterans Day, etc. I have recived email in the past that had pictures & info concerning Actors who were in WW11...I recall seeing a picture of a Western Actor who was in the Spanish American (hope I have that right) War.. I thought if there was some kind of list that had names of a varity of Entertainers who served in WW1, Korea, Viet Nam etc., then I would research for their pictures... I thought it would be interesting to display a few of their pictures along with family & friends who served in anyone of the wars we have been on involved with, as a coversation thing...I know of 1 Country Star who was in WW11..So I hoped there might be someone out there who could help .....THANK-YOU, Laura
- James Stewart and Clark Gable come to mind. I know there are many, many others who'd qualify, but I have no idea if there's a list anywhere. -- JackofOz 03:42, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Audie Murphy was the most decorated U.S. combat soldier of World War II. Elvis Presley didn't fight in any wars, but he was a GI. JackofOz 06:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Snatch
[edit]At the start of the film Snatch, where there are those fake rabbi's talking, what's the name of the music in the background?
- Been a long time since I've last seen it, but wasn't it "Diamond" by Klint? --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 19:20, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's called "Kosha Nostra", by John Murphy, the score composer for the movie. Here's a download link I found. Cheers! — Kieff | Talk 22:35, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Hockey players fighting
[edit]I regularly see North American ice hockey players fighting on TV and in some games, life bars included, suggesting this is sort of part of the show itself. Physical aggressions are very bad regarded in most sports but in this one this doesn't seem to be the case. Why is that? --Taraborn 14:34, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- too complicated a question. the short answer is tradition. 'twas the way it was. attempts to limit the fights or the people involved in figths (from fights happening involving just about anyone towards a semi-staged "enforcers" fighting each other, to revisions going in place next season that change the penalties involved that may increase fights). traditionally those people for fights in hockey will argue that allowing players to handle cheep shots and abuse on the ice via the traditional fight will produce positive effect in keeping the game clean, limit penalties and reduce ugly plays (spearing, slew footing, hacking, etc). opponents of the fights might point out "fights" as a top reason most non hockey fans decline to watch the game, the negative image the NHL gets from the few highlights that are shown, etc. you are likely better off finding a fuller discussion about this topic off wiki. many ameican sports sites that have solid hockey coverage will have archival stories for and against the state of fighting in the game. and many fan sites will have had long discussion on the pros and cons of the NHL and its evolving fighting rules. ultimately you have to remember, in most sports fighting will get you tossed out of the game, fined, and suspended. it will also often hurt your team. in hockey (ignoring the instigation rule for a second) all you get it a 5 minute sit down, and if your opponent fought back, there is no negative to your team at all.Childhoodtrauma 16:19, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- We have a featured article on this: Fighting in ice hockey.--Pharos 21:27, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Old joke: I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out. Clarityfiend 09:20, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Emo music
[edit]Does the original "emo" style of punk have any connection to music that is usually called emo today? 69.40.255.160 22:12, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Have you read our article on Emo (music)? It addresses this question in the "History" section. -GTBacchus(talk) 22:42, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
