[edit]What kind of internet connection error message goes We can't find a cable signal. and causes a second tab to appear when you try to load a page?
[edit]That strange sort of "no internet connection" or "your connection has been interrupted" message didn't seem to become a thing until very recently. Sometimes it asks you to log back in to your network, even though your connection can come back on its own, so it's not necessary to do so. When I google "we can't find a cable signal" (quotation marks included), I literally get 0 results, three Related searches tags, and no "Google couldn't find anything, try a different query" message. – MrPersonHumanGuy (talk) 18:33, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Are you connected via a cable modem? The cable modem should be receiving a cable signal; I can imagine that when it cannot detect a cable signal it is programmed to produce such a message. Your cable company can probably update the software of the modem remotely, so that it is possible to witness new behaviour although the hardware configuration is unchanged. --Lambiam 20:40, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Logging out of gmail account
[edit]On an Android tablet linked to a particular Google account, starting gmail automatically opens the associated gmail account, without any password prompt. Is there any way to stop this happening, other than removing the account altogether from the tablet? That is, is there any way to log out ONLY from gmail? The instructions that I have found online on how to log out of gmail either don't in any way match what I see on my screen and/or tell you to just remove the account altogether from the tablet, which I don't want to do. Any ideas anyone? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a00:23c8:7b08:6a00:298c:484a:8e9c:389b (talk) 21:10, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- One possible solution is to log in to that account from some other device and change the password. If given the option, tell gmail to log out any other sessions. The tablet will not have the new password, so should not be able to login automatically. Mitch Ames (talk) 06:33, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, but won't that prevent the tablet from using the linked account to access ANY Google service, tantamount to just deleting or delinking the whole Google account on the tablet? Or is there some way I can change ONLY the gmail password for an account? 2A00:23C8:7B08:6A00:E5CD:CA5A:9A52:700 (talk) 11:55, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- I don't believe so; you have a Google account, not a Gmail account. Matt Deres (talk) 14:26, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- Correct. While you can have Google accounts without Gmail, this doesn't seem to be the case for the OP. Their Gmail is part of the same Google account. You can't change the password of part of the account. You could turn of syncing which would mean no push notifications, but someone could still open the Gmail app and manually sync. You could potentially try and break the Gmail app so it can't be opened, but it's likely to be difficult to that in a manner which can't also be reversed. If you need a separate Google account if you don't want that account having access to the Gmail of the main account. Nil Einne (talk) 13:54, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
